Default excessive brake pedal travel

I just started getting excessive brake pedal travel. I have to push the pedal very far to get the brakes to engage. Does anyone know what this is a symptom of? If so, how much to fix it at the dealership?

Thanks!

Master Cylinder. plain and simple. Fix it NOW. The same thing happened to my '93, and after a couple days, you'll just have NO brakes!!! seriously. You can get reman ones from any autoparts store and trade yours in for a core and end up paying only $70 +/- with a lifetime gaurantee. It's not hard to swap at all. If you aren't comforatble with doing it, then any brake place can do it for you, just make sure you get a lifetime gaurantee. HTH, -C

If you are into "wrenching" your own car......
Do the cheap fix first - bleed your brakes.

If the problem doesn't go away, then like the earlier post said, replace your brake M/C.

Yes, it is probably master cylinder, same thing happened to me, and I tried bleeding the lines and it didn't help. Get it fix now, do not delay. One more thing, if you want an even firmer feel than you had before this problem, you might want to upgrade your brake lines to stainless steel ones at the same time, I didn't think of this when I fixed the same problem on my car, but if I did it would of been nice. The reasoning here is -> install new master cylinder requires brake line bleed, ss lines install requires brake line bleed, so just do both at the same time if you have the desire for ss lines.
