Engine died suddenly when starting from a green light

Re: Engine died suddenly when starting from a green light
I sold a Beck/Arnley Distributor to a guy with a 97 GSR. I never got word back from him whether he liked it or not. I assume he was satisfied.

Re: Engine died suddenly when starting from a green light
IT WORKS! IT WORKS! IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS!!!!!!!
lol did I mention the car works now?? Got the brand new Cardone Select distributor today. Threw it on in about 15 minutes and the car fired right up! Now all I have left to do is warm the car up and adjust ignition timing, and put the other stuff back together. Woohoooo!!!
This is the longest my car has ever sat without being run or driven (since 30 December), aside from my 2-week trip to Europe in 2005. Man I never heard a B18C1 sound so nice at high, cold idle.
Massive thanks again to el crapitan, speedoo, mouab18c1, and all the others who have helped me try to figure this thing out.

Re: Engine died suddenly when starting from a green light
What I like about getting a new distributor (besides the car starting, duh) is that I got new wiring connectors coming out of the distributor, where the original one had a broken piece that wouldn't attach to the little bracket.
What I don't like is that the distributor cap that came on it has screws with no hex head, and apparently thread locker on it. Gonna suck whenever I have to take it off. I guess one day I'll throw an OEM Honda cap and rotor in it.

Something in the distributor is all I know. I was getting spark on the coil and on each wire, but something was preventing it the engine from starting.

hey. it's a honda. if it aint the main relay, it's the distributor.
haha. feels good, don't it? you conquered the beast
i would say it was probably the cam sensor. whatever it was, it was non-serviceable anyways. since all components that could be replaced checked out.

pshh I'll probably still have it when my kid turns 16 (he's 3 now lol).
Seems like such a waste to just trash the entire distributor. I'm trying to decide whether I want to leave the cap and rotor that came on this new one, or switch it out for the Honda cap and rotor off the old one, which truthfully they weren't THAT old, I don't think. The old Honda cap looked pretty pristine inside.

Look at it this way, the car runs fine now so why mess with it. If you have a cap and or rotor issue down the road, you can always change stuff then.
