ya machine shop work is expensive
but not that expensive.
but it shouldnt be $300 i think, maybe 100-200 for labor.
$300 is outrageous.
or just do it yourself man.
Its easy as **** for the top end!
i can see you dont want to do the pistions yourself because you dont have the special tools but come on, its only the valve train.
go to www.helminc.com/ and invest in a OEM Service Manual.
Its got detailed step by step instructions with pictures. Its the best car investment you can ever buy!
get some of your grease monkey buddies to help you out if u feel a lil shakey!

My machine shop charged 75 bucks to install valve springs AND resurface my flywheel. They did alot of work for my friend so he cut me a break.
I disassembled the head myself and brought it in.

to do a complete job is about $250-$300.00 that is resurfacing, valve job, new valve guides, and install all the valve train parts.
for $100-200 then they are cutting corners. if you are redoing the valvetrain anyways, might as well change the guides and do it right

get a helms and do it by your self. By the time you take your head out to bring it to a machine shop you'll probably have finished the job by yourself. Rent the tools from autozone. caution though if you are not mechanically inclined.
