Default changed the oil, car wont start... wtf mate? 5th to 2nd gear change, eeek

k, well the other day i was on the freeway in 5th gear at about 70 or 75mph. i went to goto 4th to change get in front of a car to change lanes real quick but when i let the clutch out the car felt like it his a brick wall and the RPM spiked into teh type r zone (red on the tach buahaha). so i immediatly pushed the clutch back in and im thinking the car revved to about 8500 or 8000. so i put it in 5th make my lane change and get off the freeway.

Car sounds liek a god damn diesel but it idles fine just a little high, at about 900rpm vs the normal ~650 and the power was still there (didn't open it up real crazy tho). I limped it back home took the valve cover off and the spark plugs out. There's no metal shavings melted on the plugs, they were a light chocolate brown. exhaust cam looked advanced about 2 or 3 teeth on the timing belt , compression numbers were fine (185psi straight across after about 5 cranks, not bad for 144k miles eh?), but the valve lash was wayy loose.

i took the timing belt off set the cams up correctly and then put the number 1 cylinder at tdc, attached the timing belt and adjusted the valves. Starts up and i let it idle for a couple min, then i give it some gas, sucker sounds like its about to die so im like crap the cams are off 180 degrees. redid the timing belt and started it up again. Idles like a champ at 1300 till it started to warm up then it went down to its normal 600 or 700. So i give it some gas to make sure everything's at the right spots (cams, crank etc). revs freely and the car sounds better then ever - absolutely NO ticking under the hood.

Then i think to myself, damn the oil under this valve cover is effin dirty. So i change the oil. Normally i put in about 4 quarts + a little bit but my silly drunk *** decided to put that remaining quart of oil in so there's 5 quarts in the pan. I casually drain a little bit out (again, wasted beyond all belief) so im sure i only drained out liek 10 table spoons haha. so i park the car, call it a night. I go to start the car about 4 or 5 hours later and it starts up but the idle dies down to like 200rpm and its about to die. so i give it a little gas - dead. start it again, same thing happens.

CLIFF NOTES/QUESTIONS BELOW

wtf is up mates? can 5 quarts of oil not allow my car to hold an idle and stall out? im not throwing any codes, redid the timing (no longer sounds liek a diesel), and compression numbers are perfect along with the spark plugs. all of that was checked after the visit to 8500rpm in my LS

The car isn't smoking at all is it? Pull out a plug and see if there is any oil on it, maybe there is oil on the plugs causing them not to fire.

plugs look like they have some carbon on them. but no oil. absolutely no smoke. I just emptied out like 3/4 of a quart-o-oil. no luck.

i changed out the dizzie to a spare and it appeared to work a little better (i got enough power to go up a 20degree grade in my driveway in 1st gear) but it started to lose some power after that. I'm thinking the crank might be off 180 degrees and i had it right the first time... i dunno.

Also it appears to rev freely above about 3000rpm, but below that if i put the pedal all the way to the floor, it'll take about 3 or 4 seconds to go from like 750rpm to 3000.

ideas?

sounds to me the timing is off. double check the belt again. i wonder if the belt stretched enough to get everything out of whack....i dont know just a thought. good luck

my bet is some of the valves are bent. bite the bullet and pull the head.

but before i changed the oil (after it effed up), i drove it and it drove smoother than before and the power definatly still felt there, no ticking noises or anything like that.

oh well... im gonna try effin with the timin a lil bit then if that doesn't solve it, the head comes off, ayyye

dollar bill in front of exhaust test reveils bent valve(s). however it only does it maybe 3-5 times every 2 or 3 minutes. and it turns out it was the cam timing that was waaaay off. fixed it and she purrs liek a kitten again

you put air in the cylinders then listen {or put a bill } in front of the intake or exaust...If it blows air out then you know if its exaust or intake valves that are bent.....

going faster than you is a fuggin idiot.

put a dollar bill by your exhaust tip while the car is running, the exhaust should be constantly pushing the dollar bill away, however if you have bent valves, every once in a while, the dollar bill will get sucked to the face of the tip trying to "suck the bill in"
