cat-back exhaust?? or just muffler?? for 91 integra...what to get.
i'm in the market for a new exhaust system for my car. i want something that is quiet at idle like oem sound, but has a nice low growl when on the gas.
most systems i have heard are just loud all the time. and really tin can sounding when on the gas.
id like to buy a whole cat-back system,
but i think buying a muffler itself and having a local muffler shop just put some piping will be the cheapest. (buddy hooks me up with a good deal) also if i go this route should i use a resonator?? and i will be keeping my cat forsure.
anyway any help would be awesome.
thanks alot

i have a civic with just a muffler on it and it sounds loud, but i have on my integra a full Tsudo cat-back exhaust with 2.5" piping and at idle its really low n deep n quiet, then when you get on the gas it gets louder but not too loud but keeps the low deep sound to it... im also running a resonator with that exhaust...

I just got a 2 1/4 piping from my cat back with no resonator and just a regular muffler installed last week, at idle it sounds okay..sort of like there is and exhaust leak at times but there isn't, but then when I step on it hard around 3k and up starts to make that tin can noice....I HATE IT!...I don't want to go back and put a resonator on it cause I don't want to spend any more money...but I too want that tome you are looking for,,,deep and quite at idle and the same as you rev up...I hate the TIN CAN sound...sounds like the late 90's....early 00's. I want to buy just a universal muffler that looks stock but sounds deep, and keep the same piping, but don't know what or were or brand to get, my last car with and exhaust was my AE86 with an HKS exhaust and TRD headers and it sounded Tin Canish but thats A whole different story, that sounded SWEET!.....on that car at least.

First off, what are your plans with the car ? Boost? N/A ? stock ? Best bet is to buy a muffler of your choice and have your local muffler shop make the piping for you. The resonator is the part that will get rid of the tin can sound or at least make it sound deeper and quieter.

get THIS exhaust, its a little louder than stock, more noticable than the RSR (which is a great exhaust, btw) but if you want to buy an exhaust that has a more noticable tone, get the Greddy SP2:

i'm ordering this exhaust this afternoon. barely noticable at idle, has a nice deep tone while cruising, and when at WOT, has a nice smooth tone to it. the PERFECT import exhaust. period.
full cat-back btw. and its not a canister style exhaust either.

how will this help me...just putting on any random exhaust will more then likely end up in a sound i will not like...???
and im am doing a full system, which was already stated above. i just do not know what system to get, or muffler to get if i have a shop put piping on my car.
