you could have a bad head gasket and oil and coolant could have mixed. IDK but thats what happened to my car. and i had to clean out the head and get new gaskets.

Head gasket is pretty involved. I wouldn't attempt it if you 'very mechanically inclined.
Basic tools are needed, and a click type torque wrench that can read from 5 lbs-ft to 100 lbs-ft. Dont use a beam type. Harmonic balancer holder can be rented at auto zone or advanced. It will make your life a lot easier trying to do this. 3/8 and 1/2 drive shallow sockets with extensions for both. Good ratchets, and two adjustable wrenches something that can open up to 24mm at least or a DOHC cam gear holder.
A non vtec is easier to do than a vtec engine.
Check your oil dose it look milkey check under the oil cap. How do the spark plugs look. Do a compression test if the number look low perform a cyl leak down test to see exactly where the problem is.

Sounds like the seals on the underside of your valve cover are shot. Replace them, clean the oil and recheck.
