Default Car stalling while driving?

Car just randomly dies out in third gear, won't start. Come back the next day she starts and drives home fine.

Decide to change the air filter and everything was fine for a couple weeks until today when the car just stalled out while driving in third gear again. Wont start after it stalls.

leave it for around 30 min and she starts up and i get her home. Decide to grab a new fuel filter and install it seeing as i haven't replaced it and it took 10 minutes.

Seems to be the issue, drive the car for a good 45 min around neighbourhood and city, turn it off and come out 7 minutes later and just as I'm leaving the car stalls out in second gear.

My next guess is maybe the fuel pump? I am by no means a mechanic and don't want to be changing things that don't need to be changed so if anybody could shed some insight knows of anything that i can try that would be great thanks!

Next time this happens, watch the tach needle very carefully as you crank and the engine won't restart. At this time, does the engine go chugga-chugga but the tach needle remain dead-still? Or does the tach needle jiggle just a little bit during the chugga-chugga event?
