CAN I CONVERT TO OBD1 FROM ODB2?
Can I convert my 1999 GS to an OBD1 ecu with no sweat? What year ecu should I look for? Will there be any difference in the engines performance and reliability?

Yes, you need an OBDII - OBD1 Conversion Harness. Several places sell them. You won't sacrafice reliablity from the ECU it self. The mods which require this however are a different story. Check out: http://www.phearable.net/ for the harness, and I believe t hey sell ECU's also.

The type of ECU you'r looking for is a P28 OBD1 ECU with Conversion harness from OBD2A to OBD1.
I recently bought one from http://www.kenji211.com
If you look in the Performance section and look up kenji, you'll find a thread from him.
He has excellent prices, great customer service and ships fast.

Re: CAN I CONVERT TO OBD1 FROM ODB2? (mtber)
there wont be any modification necessary, it will be just plug and play
like said before, you need a conversion harness and an obd1 ecu and you will be good to go
