Cam seal question

Re: Cam seal question
You set up the indicator according to instructions, then use a pry bar to lever the camshaft side-to-side, towards and away from the timing belt side of the engine. It's the same technique you use to check for crankshaft end-play.
Then you use the same technique to lever the camshaft front-to-back, to check for radial play.
You'd have to rip everything apart ind inspect the assembly. Check the clearances first.

1. Set motor TDC, cam gears aligned
2. Put a allen key or a bit into the cam somewhere on it, to hold it in place.
3. Loosen the tensioner just enough.
4. Take off cam gear.
5. Take out cam seal.
6. Reinstall.
My only concern is 1 thing. Last time i did this my belt had enough slack where i didnt have to touch the tensioner at all i just slid the whole cam out.
If i do it this time, if i loosen the tensioner, will it make the belt come off entirely, like off track, i was thinking if it had to much slack it could come off the crank gear at the bottom and just totally mis-align somehow. Should i be fine ?

Re: Cam seal question
If you can keep the belt from jumping teeth, then you don't need to disturb the tensioner at all, despite what that other guy told you. But the key is making sure the belt alignment doesn't change even by one tooth, anywhere.
