Cam gear adjustment, opinions???
Almost everyone I see has flashy colored cam gears, be them single or dual. After a little research I thought a set would be a good addition to my 95 gsr, along with the gates racing timing belt, and a new water pump. I know the idea is to advance the cam timing, but how much? My gears have little markings on the hub, aligning with an arrow on the pulley, each mark representing 1 degree of cam rotation, or 2 degrees crank rotation, in either the advance or retard direction.
So what is everyone's opinion???? How many degrees should I advance them? should I do the exhaust cam and the intake cam the exact same amount? I've never done this and I could just start adjusting the **** and feeling it out, but I don't have a dyno so I would really just be guessing. So lemme know what you think! thanks for your time

That is NOT something you do your self, unless you're running something like a pro1 cam or above they are pointless and ppl tend to have issues with them like cracking or striping the bolts. just skip it

Does that mean, you won't get any gains by playing around with the LSA on a stock cam?

So what you're saying is that playing with the Lobe Separation Angle on a dohc will not give any real gains, rather just push the power band low or up the revvs as per the clocking of the cams! Please correct me if I am wrong!

I have adjustable cam gears solely because they are fractionally lighter than stock. I left them at 0°. That's the only benefit I sought from them, I'm not competing enough to degree the cams and it would not be the same for every scenario; such as drag, road, auto x, etc.

You're basically increasing or decreasing the valve over lap, you're right, you're basically moving the power band. It's honestly best done at a track and remember, you go too far you're calling a tow truck. Not something you want to do by yourself.

If you search you can find threads showing dyno gains. But like timing maps, it's not generally done unless you're an experienced tuner and on a dyno.
