Re: CALIFORNIA REFEREE/BAR SMOG STATION
That is true, kind of.
In California, the seller has the responsibility to smog the car before transfering ownership. So if you're trying to sell the car, whomever the new buyer is will say "Great, I'll take it - go get it smogged and I'll pay you once it passes".
And since you obviously cant get it smogged, you're pretty much stuck arent you?
If you can find a person who is willing to take the car, as is - then you're good. You can take the Bill of Sale to the judge and inform him that the car is gone. He'll certainly dismiss the ticket.
The hard part, of course, is finding someone who would be willing to buy a car that can't be smogged.

The judge may think you're copping out, so just to be safe - you should inform him that the cost of repairing the car to pass emissions was not worth it. So you chose to sell the car instead.
In reality, you shouldnt have to provide a reason but it's best to make your story believe as opposed to saying "Yeah, I just didnt want to pay the ticket so I sold the car".

Don't know how much has changed in the past couple years, but when I got a REF ticket, I just waited til I got the notice in the mail and paid the fee. Went to a regular smog station and passed, then showed the judge the smog certificate and that was that..

yup, and they harass us like crazy. to have a legit turbo its gotta b CARB legal, CARB legal turbo kits r very expensive, i think CARB legal edelbrock kit is like 4k+ and they r not as powerful due to emission laws of course. idk about other states but california is hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll A strict wen it comes to smog and engine swaps. and JDM motors r not legal due to higher emissions, from wat i was told
