I'd just like to know how many CAI owners have actually experienced hydrolock, so I can get an idea for how common it is. I have the AEM V2, and everytime I drive in the rain I can't help but worry.

If you HAVE had it happen to you, maybe you could put a brief description of how it happened, what damage done, and the intake you had at the time.

When I first purchased the car in June 04, it already had a CAI and I was always worried about it. I just recently changed it to a SRI in the beginning of October. So in that 4 month period I did drive through a **** load of rain and never hydro locked but it did concern the hell out of me.

i just never put on my extension...cause when i did i came close to hydrolockin cause the filter was sooo low to the ground

honestly i didnt get enough gains to justify it when we had those floods here in richmond

i also had the AEM V2 on my teg, i drove it in the rain a couple times nothing happend, then one night i was on my way home and hit a supprise rain storm when i was in florida, it rained its *** off for like 10 mins and i went through a puddle not even relizing it was there i sucked up a **** load of water, ended up bending three rods, i wouldnt suggest having a cai at all, its not really even worth the risk. Hope i could be helpful

I've never hydrolocked before but one time when it was raining really hard I was driving and heard it start to gargle. I hurried up and put it in neutral and it was fine. The next day I took the CAI off.

Same thing with my AEM v1, now I have the Ice Box and drive through rivers with no problem.

Haven't had it happen, and hope it won't happen any day at all. If your worried you can always buy a bypass valve or drive safe. Don't jump into puddles. If your paranoid don't drive in rain and if you have time change your CAI to SRI.

just close the throttle in puddles and also you live in cali baby the sunshine state

I personally used to suck up water with my old 90 LS CAI...Its would just bog for awhile then it was fine...actually ran better after the occasional blow thru of water...(this is the noob days, and never over 30mph) Never damaged anything and car is still running strong with 230k on the motor!! I think that highway speeds would break somting..

I now have a 95 gsr w/bypass...but I am still putting on a SRI for winter...a contantly wet filter is no good...

I have driven through a bunch a puddles and never had a problem. I usually put it in neutral or dissengage the clutch when going through them. I have had a few sneak up on me, but never had a problem.

no problems with my AEM CAI.....although i did get scared one time when it rained cats n dogs for almost half an hour....there were some huge *** puddles but luckily nothing happened...

used to worry the **** out of me too, not anymore, unless the filter is completely submerged in water it will not have enough of a vaccum to suck up a harmful amount of water. Just be aware of your surroundings when you're in the rain and you'll be fine, and if you can't avoid a deep puddle, let off the gas and roll through it

i've had that problem before. i miss judged a puddle. one side was much lower than the other. i passed through the first time on the low side. leaving back out it just so happenned the other side was too low. sucked a **** load of water up, bent a few valves and one rod cracked number 1 cylinder wall and broke through number 4. fucked up, but oh well. got it fixed and put my intake back on.(with aem bypass of course)

I had a SRI on my 01 Ford Ranger. Yes, this is HONDA-TECH, but my story is one of ignorance on my behalf. I went mudding after 3 days of rain. I saw a water hole about 20 ft wide by 40ish ft long. I thought no problem....MY MISTAKE. I hydrolocked from all the water going in the engine bay, and into my SRI. I broke off one rod and bent 4 more. It was fun, but costly. I have my truck back to stock!

I drove through a pretty big bunch of water with my iceman. I didn't realize how deep it was. Deep enough to completly flood the inside of my car. Thats a pretty nasty experience. I drove through that flooded spot in the road and my car died. First thing I did was take out the plugs, remove my intake and cranked the car over. Put the plugs back in, started it up and drove hom. Changed my oil and plugs that night and nothing happened. Ran fine. Granted when my car started to die I pushed the clutch and shut the car off(probably what saved it, my quick thinking) and let it roll as far as it would. Luckily I made it out of that mini-flood.

oh man...i running CAI the wheel right next to it....and nothing is covering the filter while my right-front tire is spinning in the rain..last 2 days..it was raining like crazy...it scary the **** out of me...about hydrolock....

Your tire throwing water up is hardly enough to cause that. You need to 100% submerge your filter to have that happen.

The other day it was raining like crazy over here, and there were some freakin big *** puddles around the school parking lot. We're talking around 5-6 inches. Scary stuff.

Thats why last night I ordered a POS sri from ebay for 35 bucks for the rainy season. Might sound like crap and do virtually nothing, but hey, at least I won't have to worry unless I drive through a lake!

get a nice 3" SRI [ injen? dc sports dac? ] and worry about something else

i'm with him....i hydrolocked a d16z6 cause of a cai in my civic, then again aving a cai in florida during summer isnt a good idea.

now i have setup the orignal cai cut around where a short ram would be, so it's interchangeable, just get a rubber coupler from home depot

I have SRI now and prefer it to death. The damn CAI was so freaking loud and annoying when I hit the gas it was like a hollow loud annoying sound.
