Are you talking about LoJack? Don't think that OnStar will porvide theft recovery, as its only line of sight, where LoJack uses radio signals, therefore can be tracked through walls, etc.

I want to get it because it is really cheap, plus all the parts have been restore. I just don't know about the registration part.

I think what has to happen is, the car is put back together and then has to go through inspection (must pass). When the insurance company totalled my integra after being stolen, I put it back together with all new parts and they said I was going to have to get it inspected....however they forgot and the salvage title never stayed and I never got it inspected.

Re: Buying a theft recovery (oldbeefcake)
i had bought a 98 GS which was a theft recovery from an acura dealer. And the car was a Certified used vehicle, all parts were brand new like the leather seats and stuff. Funny thing is that the car got stolen from me 6 months later. So now its a double theft recovery...never saw that car again though, so i don't know if it was recovered. But registeration and stuff was the same as buying any other car... i guess it was because Acura was doing all the paperwork and not me...just pay their fees.

****** noobs, thats the second stupid post i saw that had no relevance to the question asked today(talking about the first guy that posted, read)
as for your situation, I did purchase a theft recovery. However I happened to be lucky to buy it directly from the person it was stolen from. So he bought it back from insurance and gave it right to me, and I ended up still having the title(didnt send it back to insurance so it was still a clear title) and the car still has a clean title. If yo ucan get that kind of theft recovery it would be best. Otherwise you need to get a salvage title in which you have to go to the main DMV in your area and have it inspected. Then its a very rigid inspection and EVERYTHING has to have receipts that was stolen. So seats, engine has to be legit. If yo put a hot engine back in, they run the vin and its stolen they take the engine out and give you back the shell, you just lost your money. But if you get one thats a clean title, just put in new swap and get it ready to run by the time inspection runs around and no one will know anything.

Re: (bdkrma)
its the same as registering a clear title vehicle, my 96 ls was a recovered theft, if it already has that type of title listed on the title, then it most likely has gone through the inspection. And cars dont get salvaged due to theft, unless if its gonna cost more to bring the car back to its original condition. So dont worry about the paperwork, your insurance company will take care of it for you, they just apraise the car for theft reasons at a lower cost, say the car is worth 12k blue book, recovered thefts are 25% lower then the blue book value, so youd only get 9k back. Not a big loss, and if you like the car and the price is right, id say go for it. good luck on the car, by the way, what car is it? ls, gs, gsr?

Re: (93TealSi)
It is a black 99 GSR with 70K miles. I have to contact the seller to find out more info on it. From the picture I see. There is no body damage.
Thanks for all the replies.

yall both NoObZ...
anyways talk with the guy selling the car- i was in your shoes once. he might have had it already registered as a theft recovered car..that means you dont have to do squat.
You should also check with your insurance company- some insurance companies wont fully cover a salvaged/ theft recovered car.
