broken lower starter bolt
I'm running out of ideas ht, need your help asap.
i started to do my clutch today on my 98 integra, as soon as i got started i ran into a problem. i was removing the starter and the lower stud/bolt broke. i thought it would be easy to remove once i got the tranny dropped. turns out it broke flush with the block. I tried using easy-outs but one broke in the hole i drilled.
TIA

Eww thats gonna be tuff, i take it the motor is still in the bay?
one way is to weld a stud on and back it out but if its in the bay thats gonna be hard.
Try drilling that bit out with a bigger hole and use a screw extractor bit! use wd40 as a lube when your drilling the hole.
worse case you just use one bolt to hold the starter in, i was using one bolt for a while until i found the longer bolt i was missing.

@wunfstgsr
the motors still in the bay, I have been spraying with pb blaster for the last hour trying to let it soak. I'm worried about running one bolt in the starter, I heard the starter will break at the tab with only one bolt. thanks for the fast reply.

Too close to the block to try and weld anything with out ******* up the edges you best bet is to continue on, and then as said run one bolt and take it to a garage and get them to remove it. if you do try to drill it be extremely carful I had failed attempts with that too and snapping bits inside a stuck bolt.
to get it to a shop, running one bolt will be ok just to get the car going something's there's no shame in getting a fully equipped garage to do it.
lets face it most ppl don't have OXY/ACY torches or a good MIG welder in their garage, I don't feel comfortable using my MIG to weld heads on snapped studs.

I've broken one of the bolts holding down the rocker and ended up breaking a drill bit off inside the hole trying to extract it. It's really a bugger trying to get those things out no matter where they are or what size they are.

Re: broken lower starter bolt
I had a friend come over and try to weld a stud on to the broken bolt, no luck. It was worth a try. I kept trying to drill threw the broken piece of extractor didn't get anywhere. Went ahead and finished up the clutch job and got everything back together.
In other words i would like to say thanks for the help and would it be possible to thread the bottom tranny hole as a permanent fix? Don't really have the time or cash to pay a shop to R&R my tranny to get to that broken bolt. This is my only car and i work 6 days a week.
