Has anyone noticed cops using K band in their area. The only time K band pops up for radar is for those speed displays that tell you how fast your going. Otherwise K and X are always false alarms...

Anyone else notice this?

Since this is somewhat relative, and there are a lot of fellow CA residents in here: Are radar detectors legal to opperate in CA?

Im pretty sure there arent any laws against them.. cops are just rude when they see them. I'm not 100% sure because I have never lived in Cali, but I think that's the way it is.

K radars are used in Houston, and in San Antonio Texas... by cops.
X are usually the only ones that are definitely false alarms.

That was retarded.

The poster you're addressing is from a part of the country where several very large police forces will ticket you for having a radar detector, laser deflector, jammer or any number of other devices.

There are some devices that they will confiscate on the spot, although most of the items normally described as "detectors" will just get you a ticket.

If the device in your car were an alarm that warned you when you exceeded the speed limit, that would be one thing. As they are designed, however, they only warn you when police surveillance is in progress, and the Old Dominion therefore interprets this as a deliberate attempt to thwart the police in the performance of their assignments.

This has been tested countless numbers of times in state and federal courts, and the Old Dominion (and now some other jurisdictions) persists in the logic that there is a right to prohibit these devices on roads that cross the Commonwealth.

In this part of the world, radar detectors are much rarer than they are in other parts of the country, and there is a public perception among the typical drivers that the devices are unnecessary and that the people who buy these devices are showing an intent on breaking the law.

That's why you will occasionally get a response like, "Shut up. Just drive like you should."

The valentine 1 that tells you the direction is bullshit, the signal can be bounced off any metal surface neither from another car or truck and give it a false direction.

Been driving for two years and im now 18 and last month got my first speeding ticket.

Never had a radar detector, Never gotten a warning or ticket.
And going thru the mountains in Knoxville tn I wasnt paying attention to my speed coming down a huge *** hill....
State trooper got me 85 in a 65.
Went to court and I got $160 and 20 hours of community service.

My frind gave me an extra radar detector for free.
But its cheap.

but im normally smart about my speeding.
About to hit a corner, slow down.
About to hit a hill slow down,
ANd dont speed much. Normally 5 over.
But this time when i got cought I was pissed cuz I didnt mean to be speeding....

Im thinking about picking up the X50.... I dont care where the cops are...
If it goes off im slowing down.

However If i could find a unit that allows you to take a sensor to the front and wire it to the main display,
and a unit to the rear and wire it to th display
I would LOVE that.....

I have seen em, Just cant find them/

wow. im really surprised nobody mentioned the solo s2! it is up there in price. i paid around $380 for mine, and i am extremely pleased with it. it has the normal city, highway and auto modes, and when on the highway, there are NEVER false alarms. only home depots are false alarms, but youll know. it really is amazing. its cordless, and has great detection from the rear. i remember being on 95 going to fla, and the thing starts beeping in slow increments. it didnt stop for at least 2 minutes, and it seemed strange. after like 2 min, a cop comes flying up from behind. the cop flew past me, but that cop must have been behind me for at least a mile or so, without even pointing his radar. it was just on and coming my way, and the thing let me know. i was def. impressed. anyway, making many trips from ny to fla on 95, it has never failed me. for my solo s2

Im on youtube watching all these videos of different detectors.

Im seeing alot of Jammers bering used and cops not doing anything about them.

Unless im wrong the jammers are highly illegal, and dont they know when you have one when they cant get a speed from you?

Then again, I see people using them for 3 sec just to slow down and then shutting them off...

Like these for example

all cops in my area use k band

and once again, the V1 owns all. it might not be as sensitive, but the arrows do the trick! and the bogey counter too.

look at the latest version of the passport 9500. Im not sure if its even out yet. But check it out.

I know for a fact that they compared the Valentine 1 against the passport 8500 and chose the valentine over it. Read it in some car magazine.

Yeah there is no dought about the V1.

I have heard that the new passport 9500 tho puts up a good fight.

My thing it, I dont want some box hangin below my rearview mirror...

Thats kinda why I want the units that mount in the front of the car and the rear,
and in the front windshield, but at the very top above the mirror and is small.

Im really interested in the units that jam laser for a few seconds then shutf off
giving you time to lower your speed somewhat. like 5mph

Problem is Im looking at my Ticket I got and the State Trooper used
RADAR PACING 02
And nothing marked under "Other laser"

So I dont see the "Jammers" doing much good.

Unless the jam radar too. I thought they only jammed Laser

The only states where they are currently illegal statewide are Virginia and the District of Columbia. Florida is considering banning them.

A couple of states (I think mine is one) bans their use in commercial vehicles (trucks) but not cars.

The laser jammers only jam laser. Jamming radar is illegal, nationwide.

radar detectors are a waste of money imo. The only circumstance where it would be useful is if the cop had it on already pointed at another vehicle. Other then that he would just flick a switch and your detector would go bonkers and by that time it would be too late.

Imo radar detectors are like a little kids 'comfort blanket'....

Best detector is training yourself to drive safe and prudent and watching FAR down the road at ALL times. my .02

I have never gotten Laser warning, and for the first time today I got
V/S which is safety alert...

I go this about a month ago.
