this has been asked a dozen times, and usually its a toss up between the escort passport 8500 x50 and the valentine1.

Personally, I have the x50 and I wouldnt trade it for anything, and I would recommend it to anyone.

That was retarded.

EVERYONE speeds at one time or another, if you claim you don't buy a Camry.

The best radar detector by far is the Valentine One. If only for the fact that it has the ability to tell you the direction the radar is coming from. This detector has saved me from 4 speeding tickets, one D.U.I and is always on my windshield. I Swear by it. Its 400 dollars but if you are always going 15-25 miles over the limit then it is worth its weight in gold. The Escort is a nice alternative if your looking to save 100 dollars and it also has a feature which eliminates X band which is basically useless to us. The Valentine has a CPU that "filters" thru the radar and only alerts of potential threats, but mine goes off for X and K band often. This can be a nuisance and turns alot of people off to radar detectors because they don't like to hear a Fuggin beep every minute. But in reality the Valentine One has different alerts for different Radar bands and after a while you don't even pay attention to the false alarms. Especially over loud music.

Basically, if money is no option and you want uncompromised performance. Go with Valentine One. It has saved me like 5 grand just from saving me from the Dewey. Plus the peace of mind to drive however I want whenever I want. Within reason, obviously if you drive like a **** knocker and you pass a cop going 110 no jammer, detector, bumper sticker, member affiliation etc will save you.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, I just got the X50 a week ago and it already saved me 1 time. And I also I recommend getting it on Amazon. Got mine brand new for around $270 shipped.

The V1 is not by far the best radar detector out today. RX65. X50 and V1 are deffiently the top 3 (not including the STI) If you take the X50 Ver. 6.1 and test it against the latest Ver. V1 you'll see that the V1 has better laser, but can not pick up instant on KA as fast as the X50 can. Going over hills and turns the X50 can pick up easier then the V1. The X50 aslo has alot less false alerts then the V1. Yes the arrows are very handy but it doesnt make your detection any better. You basically pay $400 for the V1 because of the arrows and a bit better of laser detection. Laser detection doesnt really work all that well anyway. Once your *** is laserd just pull over and wait.

You have no reasoning behind that.

But back on topic, the valentine one is awesome. It was directional arrows that tell you which way the cop is and it tells you how many. Secondly laser jammers are illegal.

By the time you or a passenger sees the cop, he's already tagged you.

I think the performance of the X50 and V1 are pretty much on par with each other (detection wise. The arrows is still a feature that will always put the V1 on top). However, there is one factor that everyone forgets. The V1's superiority comes in when it comes time to upgrade. Any future software OR hardware upgrades simply requires you to mail in your V1, and either at no cost, or very minimal charge, you get an updated unit which has exactly the same features as the ones coming off the press today. So you can "save" $100 today, and two years down the road pay another $300 for a new detector, or you can invest that $100 for a unit with better features and will never be "out-dated."

I have to check this out, but I believe you can turn off the X band on the V1, too. I'll look into it. Surprisingly, there are cops in the ski canyons around here that still use the X band.

about the Laser detection.....I have been hit with laser twice and recieved enough warning to slow down in time. I have always heard that if you get hit with laser your screwed no matter what. I geuss they didn't have a Valentine One. In California they use mostly laser anyway so I think that is a huge selling point. The Arrows are very very handy. just imagine. One more thing, The V1 has different alerts for different radar types so once you get used to the sounds you stop paying attention to the false alarms. The Escort doesn't have that.

I know the idea behind these is to not get pulled over but what are you supposed to do/say if you do get pulled over and you have the thing in view?

As long as it's legal in your area, they can't say or do anything. If you're worried, V1 has a concealed display that will be useful in this situation and will also help keep it out of sight from the thieves.

the escort totally has different sounds for different radars.
If my radar detector goes off, I can tell you which radar went off, whether it be K, X, Ka, or Laser.
Mine has gone off because of a laser a few times and it's saved me from being pulled over.

not being a jackass, but I just dont understand how the arrows help so much?
if hes in front of you, head towards you, he could turn around. If hes ahead of you hiding, its obvious how he could pull you over.
If hes behind you he could speed up or turn around to get you.
If hes to your left, he could turn around to get you if needbe, otherwise just turn towards the direction youre going to get you. Same as for the right..
So I just dont get it... if my radar detector goes off I'm going to slow down no matter what, because a cop could turn around to get you. :-/ Confuseddd

Yeah, my 8500 had different sounds for the three bands.

As far as the arrows go, I actually found them to be quite useful this morning. I was cruising on the highway, when the Ka went off. It pointed straight and got stronger. So I slowed down, and sure enough, passed a highway patrol on the side of the road. I passed him, and the arrow, of course, was pointing backwards. Then, after about 1/4 mile or so, I noticed a second radar, and the V1 was pointing forwards. Now, if I still had my 8500, I'd shrug it off thinking it was just the cop that I passed. But the V1 said 2 bogeys, one back, and one ahead. Half a mile down the road, I see a cop coming from the other direction on the highway.

Arrow's aren't going to guarantee anything, but it's definately something better than just a beep that you get. The more info that you can work with, the better off you will be. For me, I cannot go without the arrows. Even if it's just one cop gunning me, I want to know where exactly he is.

Until somebody else comes out with something better, I'm sticking with my V1.

Describing it that way, I guess I can see how they could be useful.
I always slow down when I have a signal though, so I guess for my own personal needs, they wouldnt be all that useful.
But thanks for explaining why some people like them so much
