I have the avs es 100's and love them. Plenty of grip. Im not hearing the road noise that others have stated, but they only have about 2k on them.

You'll hear it soon enough. My tires got pretty loud before I had even 10K on them.

i would like to say kumho sucks, from experience my tires started to have babies on the sidewall, maybe its all the hard cornering i do. tried yokohama es100 and Falken 512. i perfer the falken , less noise. es is ok but gets too noisy after it wear down, right now i'm on BF goodrich g-force sport, i can say i really like them, sometimes i tried to do a 180 spin or ebrake drifting around a turn, the ******* tires would not slide...remember this is from experience. its the best so far from what brand i have mention above, remember what you pay is what you get...next year its going to be Nitto neo geo or maybe i'll stick to bf goodrich..and last again i would like to say kumho sucks....no haters please, this is just from my experience.....and my 0.02 cents.

Thanks For Your Comments, Unfortunately The Falken 512 Is A All Season Tire, I Am Looking For A Ultra High Performance Summer Tire, I Have Used Falken Before On My 98 Prelude. But When I Sold The Car There Was Less Than 1000 Miles On Them. They Did Seem Pretty Sticky For That First 1000mi. Though. The Falken FX-451 Is A UHP SUMMER Tire Though, They Have A 280AA Tread Rating And Go For $88 A Piece

So Now I Have Added Another Tire In, Which Now?
Falken FX-451 - $88 / 280 AA
Yokohama AVS ES100 - $81 / 280 AA
Kumho ECSTA SPT - $64 / 320 AA

Parads are more show, ES100's are more performance.

So have you actually used the Kumho SPT tires in question? If you've only used something like Ecsta 711's or 712's, then yes I would agree with you, but don't say the whole company sucks just because of somewhat crap performance on a couple of tire models.

I haven't used the SPT's either, but I may give them a try after my current set of ES100's, since these are a little too loud for my tastes.

SPT and ES100 are actually very close in performance, according to NSXtasy ( I persoanlly don't have much experience with ES100). OP: strike that Falken tire off your list, my experience with Fk/Fx falken tires is that unlike other tires that lose traction progressively, they will lose traction without any prior warning, leaving your car in a ditch or worse.

SPT or ES100 should be your main choices. The performance difference between the two are very negligible and may not justify the extra $80 or so you'll spend on the Es100. SPT

Don't you get tired of hitting the Shift key on the first letter of every word?

Yeah on Discount Tire Direct's website, the difference is about $50/set including shipping, with the SPT's coming in just under $300 and my ES100's were around $350.

You sound like you are making the right choice. Since he's not around, I'll post up a comparison of some of these tires from the resident HT tire guru.

The Azenis (Falken Azenis RT-615) is still the stickiest street tire available for dry pavement, and is an excellent choice for those who want a street tire that they can also use in autocross and track events. It has two major downsides - rapid treadwear (you might get 10-12K miles to a set and then you'll have to buy more) and so-so performance in rain and on wet pavement (better than its RT-215 predecessor but not as good as most other street tires). $77/tire in 205/50-15 at Vulcan. If you care about dry traction and don't care much about anything else - and this describes many of us - this is the choice for you.

The Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 is similar to the Azenis; it offers very good dry traction (but not quite as good as the Azenis), so-so wet traction, the same short treadlife, and a similar price ($86/tire in 205/50-15 at Discount Tire with free shipping). I don't see any advantage to the Z212 over the Azenis.

The Bridgestone Potenza RE010 (our OEM tire) offers great handling feel. It has excellent dry traction, pretty good wet traction, and treadwear is fairly good (expect 15-20K miles, although I'm up to 29K on mine and they're not quite done yet). The downside is that they're expensive - $140/tire in 195/55-15 at the Tire Rack. If you want great handling and very good performance and you don't mind the purchase price, consider those. Disclaimer: I am selling an almost-new set (see sig).

The Bridgestone Potenza S-03 is being discontinued, but is still available for now. It offers excellent dry traction, excellent wet traction, and decent treadlife (15-25K), but is expensive ($141/tire in 205/50-15).

The Yokohama ES100 and Kumho Ecsta SPT are the leaders in the "bang for the buck" category. They offer very good dry performance (they're not at the Azenis or S-03 level, but still very good), excellent wet performance, and excellent treadlife (expect 30-40K miles). The ES100 has been around for several years and is well regarded (see this previous topic for comments about how good they are in the rain). The SPT is new within the past year. Comparing the two, they are almost identical on dry pavement, the SPT is even better than the ES100 in rain (the ES100 is not bad though), the SPT has a higher treadwear rating, and the SPT is usually less expensive. This past Sunday, my experienced Prelude student at Road America switched to his SPT street tires due to pouring rain all day, and the traction in the rain was absolutely awesome. So between these two, I would choose the SPT, but the ES100 (which we have on our GS-R) is still very good. In 195/55-15, the SPT is $62 and the ES100 is $63 at the Tire Rack. Either one is a great choice for daily driving and those looking for good value, with very good performance in a long-lasting, relatively inexpensive tire.

If you're looking for something very similar to the ES100 or SPT, but for less money, you might consider the Dunlop Direzza DZ101, which is $48 in 205/50-15 (and $67 in 195/55-15) at the Tire Rack.

I don't recommend the Fuzion ZRi. The performance is a notch below the ES100 and SPT. In some sizes, it's less expensive, which may make it worth considering, but in 205/50-15 it's actually a bit more ($65 at the Tire Rack). Lower performance and higher price make it not as good a choice as the ES100 or SPT.

If you're looking for performance a bit better than the ES100 or SPT, but you don't want to spend as much as the S-03 or RE010 and you don't want the short treadlife of the Azenis, consider the Kumho Ecsta MX or the Toyo T1-R. The MX is $74/tire in 205/50-15, and the T1-R is $84/tire in 195/55-15.

interesting that those 2 tires are so close in price for 195/55-15, but quite a bit further apart in price for 205/45-16.

Check out tirerack.com, tire prices in 215/45/16 and a lot of these tires literally cost twice as much as their performance counterparts, despite only 10mm more of rubber.

I wasn't comparing prices of different sizes with each other, I was comparing the SPT and ES100's price in the same size. In 195/55-15 each tire is only $1 apart in price. But in 205/45-16 size, each of those tires are $10-$12 apart in price, which makes for $40-$50 difference for a whole set, which would make me more likely to go for the SPT in that particular tire size. In 195/55-15 it's pretty much a toss-up either way.

These aren't a horrible tire. I've had OK results with a set of 205/50/15s running them at lower PSIs, 32-30. They are similiar to the Bridgestone Potenza RE-750 in a lot of ways. Buutt... they have gone up in price significantly since there release, and are no longer worth it. For a little bit more, you can get DZ101, SPT, ES100, which all outperform the ZRI by quite a bit.

I have been running the F1's on my M3 for about a year now... PHENOMENAL tire. On my previous M3 I only ran the SO2's and then subsequently SO3's... IMO the F1's blow them out of the water in every regard. Superb dry traction, no tramlining, and they are brilliant in the rain.

Proxies 4 are a mediocre all-season tire at best. This discussion is about good summer tires. If you are talking about the T1r, those are outperformed by the Ecsta MX and Azenis RT615, both of which are cheaper.

I had ES100s, now on T1Rs, the T1Rs are great so far. From what I can tell so far, they have atleast a minor edge over the ES100s in every category.
