Default batterys fine but car wont start

ok, so i get in the car and everything has power... my amp for my stereo tells me how many volts the battery has on it and it says 11.3... when i try and start it the car turns over maybe 3-4 times and then starts clicking as if the battery died BUT all my lights and everything are still real bright, the windows still open and close like they usually do and the stereo will still have power... its a brand new battery because my old one did this same thing... what could the problem be?

well first of all your battery should have 12.6... or very close to it ... definately not below 12..

have you checked your starter..?

i havent checked the starter but how would the starter be causing the car to turn over a few times and then start clicking as if the battery is dead??? but when hook it up to jump start it the car starts right up? all my grounds are tight... all wiring is fine... and the battery is 2 weeks old...

so it starts when you get a jump? do you have a battery charger? charge it for a while and then try that? if it works then, then i would assume there is a wiring problem

ok so let me re say this...

i blew my motor up... we pulled it out and sent it out to be sleeved and bored... while it was gone we completely gutted the car, installed security system and few other electronics.. soldered and shrink wrapped ALL the points that were soldered... then did a wire tuck through the engine bay but also shrink wrapped that wiring and also re electrical taped it all... alternator is a 170amp alternator and has been used for less then 6 months.. the battery is brand new... all the grounds are tight, all wiring is fastened down somplace to prevent from bouncing around or getting broken, melted, etc... got engine back and put in and drove car around for about a month and put around 600 miles on it... then had an o2 sensor take a crap so car wouldnt run properly and it sat for about 3 weeks at my ex's house... went to her house one day and the car was dead... i went and got a new battery and put it in and the car was fine so i drove back to my house where i parked it and havent drivin it in 2 weeks... i came outside and everything turns on and has power and nothings dim at all... try start and the engine turns over twice and then starter starts clicking as if batterys dead yet it has 11.4 volts still...but i hooked jumper cables to it and then to my truck and it started right up... let it run for few minutes and shut off and tried turn back on and did same thing...

wow. a bit more complicated than i thought. i am by no means a pro. at the electronics, so take anything i saw with a grain of salt.

i am guessing it is one of the following:
accessory robbing power
ground
alt

i am sure you have checked every connection 3 times already. alt is new. grounds are tight. i;m no help. sorry for my waste of a post.

coil is a brand new external coil with a new vision cap and msd rotor... the plugs, wires are both brand new...

i think something inside the car may have gotten messed up so im going to start pulling the dash apart and check in there again...

If the car will start when jumped started then its your battery or your alternator. New parts arent suppose to go bad but they can. Check your alternator and make sure its charging right. Get it started and pull off the neg battery cable and the car should run fine, if it doesn't you need a new alternator, if it does run fine get a new battery with a warrenty.

Your 3rd battery is going to go dead too because your alternator is bad. Its not charging the battery all the way.

u could have a parasitic drain somewhere in the acessory areas. i.e. trunk or glove box light if equipped that could be staying on. or on my da my main relay was bad and the teg would start but when i stopped to get gas it wouldn,t start up again it would just crank until it stopped cranking but after awhile it would start up again in dont know if that helps but try it.

unplug your stereo system for a start & see what happens. maybe is just to much of a load for your ride electrical system, may your alt is starting to crap out under heavier loads........

^^^^^agreed.

IT IS NOT THE STARTER OR ALTERNATOR!!!!

You have an electrical drain somewhere.

If your battery is under 11.7 volts it does not have enough cranking power to start the car, therefore it will crank and start clicking because there isnt enough power to turn the starter.

Explain EXACTLY how your stereo system is hooked up and whats connected where. This is more than likely your problem.

On a side note, make sure you turn your light off in the hatch, alot of people seem to think it automatically shuts off.

THE BATTERY IS NOT FINE. if the car will not start unless you get a jump the battery is bad. you need to stop this the battery is new there is nothing wrong, you have a drain somewhere and something IS WRONG. and like others have told you your battery should NOT read 11.6 it should be 12 volts at the lowest. Started you should be 14.4.

IF YOUR BATTERY READS 11 ANYTHING THERE IS A PROBLEM ENOUGH SAID!
