whats better to fix up with a 92 ls teg... a b16a1 or b18a1? i have a b18a1 in it now but i found a b16a1 at a really good price.. is it worth the swap??

well b16a1 has more hp but less torque, while b18a1 has less hp but more torque so i guess its wat u want. more torque + less hp or less torque + more hp. good luck deciding. but if u find a b16b or b18c i love those 2

i would say both are even...its very hard too choose. If you were going too get heavy into modding i think the b16 is a better choice.

IMO B16 is junk! Stay away from it and dont waste your money. Either go LS/Vtec, save for a B18c1, or build a turbo kit for your LS.

I think a B16 with the LS tranny would be horrible. If you can get the engine and tranny it might be worth it. If it were me, I would stick with a B18 and do a head swap or buy a B18c

that set up is good. On my old 96 ls motor I had that set up except with a gsr trans. B16 is ok but has no torque. Ive beaten ek's with b16's in them easily because of the torque the non vtec b18 produces, and thats in a DC chassis w/ bolt ons of course. good luck

i have a 90 ls, plan to ls/vtec. i was thinking about b16a'n it, but slappin a b16 head on a b18 block is a better idea, for me anyway...torque+hp...its the way to go. good luck with ur **** man

I have a B17 in mine since it's a 92 GS-R, she runs fine but when i go turbo i'd like to get a B18C1 or B18C short block. That way i'm out of the B16ish realm. What sucks is that i never have seen a site that sells short block b18c's. I think they call it a "poor man's type-r" due to using the PR3 head on a B18C...

Does that sound like an ok idea?

golden eagle makes a pretty straight foward setup... btw the way b16 arent junk! its by far one of the most sought 4 motors, $ for HP cant really beat it...

not necessarily hard, but prepped right. its all in the machine work and bottom end build up. replace water and oil pumps to p72 pumps, and get oem honda bearings. arp headstuds to lock that vtec head into place.

Try getting an LS block. They go for $100 to 200 vs. a GSR block that go from $500 to $800. Not to mention the LS has a longer stroke.

WTF! $ for HP......how bout the H22 is the same price as a B16! Or how bout you can pick up a complete LS swap for about $800 or less, and can whoop up on B16's all day!

B16's IMO are good for one thing beginner motors. If you know nothing about honda motors, than a B16 is for you! There are plenty of parts available and you can learn from building it. The only reason they are so sought out is b/c ppl are addicted to Vtec like crack. They think that there is nothing else in the world that can produce a faster engine. Trust me I've had my share of B16's!

IMO...

1. Stick with the LS and go turbo

2. Build an Ls/Vtec

3.Save your money and get a GSR

Stick with the B18A/B, remove LS tranny and replace it with a B16 tranny, add some cams, put in some p30 pitsons, maybe go LS/VTEC.

Just do a GSR swap. I have a b16 engine and tranny in a DA, and the car is slower than it was with the LS in it. The b16 makes good power above 5500 RPM, but below that, hang it up. The LS had a more mid-range powerband. If you go with a GSR, you don't have to do any other work other than the swap, which will bolt right in. You'll just have to wire it up. Lo Cash Racing, has some great wiring products available to make it "plug" right in. LS/VTEC would cost more than a GSR swap to do, and you'd have a little more power depending on how far you go in the build up process. But I know that I couldn't go without my daily-driven teg for more than a day. So LS/VTEC wouldn't be worth it for me. Cause it would take a while. I guess it is a trade off between money, power, and time.

crxsi541, how much your getting b16 for? Because some one offered me a b16 Sir2 for $1700, with cable tranny and i dont noe the tranny code.

Sorry for stealing thread but you guys think its a good idea to put that in a 4dr 90 teg. AND YES MONEY IS A PROBLEM, that is why im considering it.

No not worth it and whoever is selling that motor is ripping you off. I bought an SiR-II B16a w/ a hydro tranny for $1850 back in 1999.
