Default Annoying braking sound

i have had this problem with my car for a while now. my front passenger wheel makes an awful rhythmic creeking noise when i apply the brakes. it only happens when i use the brakes. my brakes also squeak. so they squeak and creek when using brakes. after i drive it for a while, the creaking sound gets softer and softer but its still there. the creeking sound started happening after i had taken my car to change the wheel bearings.
i had changed my brakes not long ago hoping that it would stop the creeking sound. it went away for about a week and then started making the noise again. i also resurfaced the rotor. that didnt really help. there's no visible sign of whats wrong with it. i have taken it to my mechanic several times and he doesnt know whats wrong with it.
im hoping that its nothing major. im almost positive that the squeaking noise is from the brake pads but the creaking noise is what im really concerned about. plus, it's really annoying. so please if anyone can help me out at all. ive been driving like this for too long now and i wanna get it out of the way.

Ok. About your brakes squealing.
That means that the linings have glazed.. (The linings are the brake pads).
So you probably didn't break them in enough.

I have the same problem with my camry.. that creaking scratching noise..
if you mean that noise that happens when you let go of the brake from a stop.. or brake going really slowly ..
that's what i got.
my dad tells me it's normal and happens over time and that it's fine as long as the brakes don't squeal.

he may be wrong. Sorry for your trouble, good luck.
(Somebody help this fella y0)

the noise only starts when i step on the brakes. it keeps going until i come to a complete stop. the creaking sounds clearer when i come to a stop. it kinda sounds like a door creaking when im stopping, but it has a rhythm to it

try some brake shims, bout 5 bucks or so, they should work, or if you want, try anti squeal goop, bout 2.50 or 3.00. they both go on the outside, oh you might also try synthetic caliper grease on you caliper bolts and pads too

Sometimes the rotors are too worn to be resurfaced successfully, my rear brakes were making the same noise so I just replaced the rotors and no more sound. it gets expensive, but it'll work

What do you mean when you say rhythmic? Describe that.

When you changed your pads, did you apply grease to the back of the shims, and did you reuse the shims?

I'm gonna bring this post back to say that I have the EXACT same problem right now.

What brake pads did you use? My sound came when I changed my pads, the pads were from Napa. I figured out it was the brake pad retaining clips (or one of them) scratching against the rotor. This was just on one side, so I switched the clips (driver to passenger). That didn't help, my next idea is to use Honda pads. I'm thinking that the other pads warp the retaining clip slightly making it touch the rotor when braking. If not this then maybe the clips are bad.

Tell me if you know anything new.

Philip

it sounds like you need to resurface your rotors (get them turned) or your brake pads just might need to be changed. When was the last tiem you changed your pads, and did you get your rotors resurfaced when the pads were changed??

I am now having the exact same problem as the rest of you. I had my car in for inspection and I had the rotors turned and new pads put on, it was good for about 2 weeks then this odd noise/creak started. I figured my rotors warped so I replaced them with new ones and the sound is still there. Im pretty sure the shop I took my car too used Napa pads so could be the clips I will have to check that out. If anyone has any ideas let me know this is driving me insane. Thanks.

I worked on this problem for a while, I changed pads then there was creaking. I switched to Honda pads, still creaking. I redid the whole job while lubricating everything according to Hanes, still creaking... had rotors turned... got new rotors... still creaking.

Then I looked in the Helms. What makes the squeak go away is lubricating the correct points (mainly the clips) with Molykote M77 assembly lube. You get this stuff at Honda. I think it's like 20 bucks a tube. Anyway I did that and now no creak... at all.

I'm not at home right now so I can't tell you the exact points, but this is where I would put the lube:

all over the retaining clips, pad/piston contact area, pad/shim contact area, shim/piston contact areas.

Oh yea, a little pack of this stuff comes with the Honda pads.

I dropped my car back into the shop where I had most of my brake work done and they took a look at it and replaced the shims and the creak is now gone.

Thanks for the help Philip I will remember the assembly lube if I ever have problems again.
