Re: Acura VIN Number explaination (GRAF-FITI)
Here's a break down of a 95 Acura: sayyy a Legend.
JH4KA766XSC000001
JH4 - Manufacturer, Make, and Type of Vehicle (I know from working at Acura when I see JH4 that it will either be a Legend, RL, TSX or Integra. In the case since I see all of the VIN I can determine that it's a 95, so it's either a Legend or Integra.)
KA7 - Model & Engine Size (Again, from working here, I know that a KA7 is a 4 Dr. 3.2 Liter)
DB7 - Integra 4dr 1.8
DB8 - GS-R 4dr. 1.8
DC2 - GS-R 3dr. 1.8
DC4 - Integra 3dr 1.8
KA7 - Explained above
KA8 - Legend 2dr. 3.2
6 - Body & Trans type (The 7 digit in the vin will tell you the Transmission type. They are as followed.
1&3 - 2dr m/t
2&4 - 2dr a/t
5 - 4dr a/t
6 - 4dr m/t
6 - Equipment Trim & Restraint System (7th digit, tell you the Trim level of the car. If it's an Integra you have the RS, LS, and GS-R. with the Legend you have the L, LS, and GS. Also you'll know if it has leather.)
X - Check Digit (Basically a freebee, it's either going to be 0-9 or X only)
S - Year (Obviously tell you the year of the car. Why S? Let's just say the B = 1981, therefore C=1982, D=1983, etc.... There is no O, Q, U, or Z so skip those. Year 2000 would be a Y. and 2001 would start at 1, 2002=2, 2003=3, etc...(So we can tell this car is a 1995, which is S)
C - Plant (Where the hell did it come from? Well, here's where a 95 Legend came from)
C - Sayama, Japan
S - Suzuka, Japan
T - Tochigi, Japan
000001 - Sequential Production Number (there are hundreds of codes for this, so no 2 same looking cars will have the same serial number.
So all in all, I can tell you this about the VIN: It's a 1995 Acura Legend L w/ leather 4dr 3.2liter A/T made in Sayama.
And please never use that redundant statement again. Vehicle Identification Number Number? I hate that!

That depends on the model and the year. On some models, in recent years, they had one sequence beginning at 000001 for the automatic transmissions, and another sequence, also beginning at 000001, for the manual transmissions. So, for example, you could have two different four-door Integras, one with manual and one with automatic, in the same model year with the same six-digit sequence number.

If you're looking for Integra-specific VIN decoding, check out this article.

Re: Acura VIN Number explaination
hopefully I won't get flagged for bumping to a such an old thread
but this page came up on google when I searched for acura vin decoder.
If someone else runs into it then probably he is searching for a good
decoder too, and after spending some time googling for a decoder my suggestion would be Acura Vin information

Re: Acura VIN Number explaination
Here's the community Acura VIN decoder. For some VINs it shows factory options and extended tech info.
