AC not blowing
Am having problems with my AC not wanting to blow cold during but in the afternoons it works a lil better but nothing special. I already added freeon it really didnt help. Then I thighten up my AC belt because it was and that also didnt do anything. So at this point am thinking the compressor is no good. Is there anyway I can check make sure that is problem or things I can do to make AC the blow cold. BTW my car is 98 gsr.

Re: AC not blowing
The car is a 98 GSR so the refrigerant is R134a, is that what he put in and how much?
The gauges should have given an indication of what was wrong, if anything.
With A/C on max and engine RPM at 1000-1500 the high side gauge should read about 150 PSI and the low side about 20 PSI.
Is the condenser and rad fans turning on when A/C is on?
What is the vent temperature when A/C is on? 94

Re: AC not blowing
If you're really serious about using AC on a daily/weekly basis, then you need to take it to an AC shop. They have a special machine to evacuate, place in system in a vacuum, and recharge it with exactly the correct amount of refrigerant.
Only use the cans if you don't use the AC much and just need a quick fix (like me lol).

Re: AC not blowing
well am not sure what the guages read but i would assume they read what they were suppose to read because my uncle didnt anything out to me about it. yes i used r-134a. as for the fans am not sure if they turn on cause i havent checked but ill check that in a lil but. Also the temp coming out of the vents was 30 after we added the refrigerant but this was in the even if that affects it which am sure it does.

Re: AC not blowing
30F is pretty damn good. Are you sure about that? Most cars do 40-60F. According to the manual the correct way to test temp is:
1.Avoid direct sun
2.open hood and doors, stick thermo in vent
3.Set lever to max cold, fan on position 4, and recirculate
4.run engine at 1500rpms (use throttle body lever)
5.nobody in the car
6.check after 10 min

Re: AC not blowing
You need to recheck that, the condensation on evaporator would freeze up at 32F so the system is designed not to get that cold, the compressor will cycle off to prevent it. 94

Re: AC not blowing
wat does it mean if the guages read higher than that cuz i think the high side might have been in the 200 range and the low side in the 40 range. idk what that might mean but am sure you can tell me

Re: AC not blowing
A high reading on the high side is either an overcharge, [result would be poor cooling] or a poor airflow issue, [fans not working or blockage] if running water over condenser when A/C is on, lowers head pressure, [high side pressure] it is an airflow problem, if head pressure does not lower it is an overcharge.
However a high reading on the low side along with a high reading on the high side would indicate an overcharge or a possible problem with the expansion valve. 94

Re: AC not blowing
is there a way to check the expansion valve. To add more info, the ac will blow cold in the evenings like from 6 and on but if its during the day the ac is more of fan than anything.
also to add, the yesterday the ac was working decent during the day. this came as a surprise because we came close here to breaking a record high. what that might mean i have no clue.lol

Re: AC not blowing
From my experiences if the AC is run on a daily basis, it will work better and quicker. Sometimes I go months without turning it on and that's why mine blows hot on a hot day.
From my manual, analysis after performance test:
