95 Integra GSR died randomly while on the road
Ok so first, I've looked up similar threads with what I'm about to ask and I haven't found someone who has the same exact problem as me. Correct me if I'm wrong and please reply with a link. Thank you in advance. Anyways! So for the last week I've noticed my car has been struggling to start while in the heat at work but has been turning on fine in the morning. Today while driving my car kind of sputtered and shut off randomly as if I stalled. All my lights turned on so I simply thought damn, I stalled. I started up the car again and nothing. The car cranks, it'll crank all day but it won't start. Got AAA to tow it home. Once I got home I started to see what I can find out. So a couple of things, all my lights are on, antenna works along with my headlights so that made me think the battery is fine and hopefully the alternator is good as well. So I then turned the key twice and I hear my fuel pump prime. I hear a little buzz and everything. What made me think that it's not my fuel pump is because when I turn the car on and crank it a bit I can smell fuel from my exhaust. Again people I'm not a car guru and still learning and looking for help and answers lol. So far what I THINK is my battery is fine, my alternator is fine, my fuel pump is fine and not sure if my starter even comes into question. Through my research people have found out that their problem was either their main relay, something in their dizzy, fuel pump, ignition coil/module? Or or ignition switch or an igniter?? Honestly I really don't know where to start. Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance. Any thought guys??

If u have confirmed u have no spark inspect plug wires pull the dizzy cap and visually inspect rotor, inspect coil with a digital multi meter make sure it is within specs, and inspect the ignition control module per repair manual

it's likely to be the coil, drives me flippin crazy.
just buy all those parts you mentioned as you'll need them sooner or later.
go to rockauto and look for the parts with the red hearts.<3
then check ebay/amazon for lower prices lol.

sounds like main relay is ok but it is an issue for many.

$10 for the haynes manual is worth it just for the troubleshooting chapter.

Better to find out what the problem is first.
You can eliminate fuel as the problem pretty easly, when engine will not start, [just cranks] turn ign. switch to the run position, [not all the way to
start] and listen, you should hear the fuel pump run, [prime] for a few sec. then turn off, it will do this each time the ign. is turned on, if so, the PGM-FI Main Relay is not your problem.
If you cycle the ign. like that, [to run position and turn off when fuel pump stops priming and on again] a few times, then try and start the engine, if engine still will not start the fuel pump is most likely not your problem, [fuel pressure is not the problem].
As mentined, both the coil and ICM, [ignition control module] can be tested easly.
A $10 HEI spark tester can be used to test for proper spark.
The PGM-FI Main Relay, coil and ICM are prone to heat failure, work when cold but fail when hot. 94

Tossing parts at the problem, "I'm going to replace each thing one by one" is an expensive way to troubleshoot a problem.

Re: 95 Integra GSR died randomly while on the road
Ok so here's an update.... Took off a spark plug wire and put a spark plug on it, had my buddy crank her a few times and turned out I didn't have a spark at all. Pulled off the dizzy, dizzy contains the icm and ignition coil or I like to call the igniter and a 3rd piece I'm not to sure of honestly. Ok so checked the specs on the icm and coil and turns out they were basically done. I borrowed my friends dizzy and took his coil and popped it into mine. The car cranked for a bit then when I let go of the key I could just tell my car was trying to start up. I then swapped icm's to see how the car would do. It got even better. The 3rd part im not too sure what the name is of it but on mine it looked all nasty and burnt. So at the end of the day I ended up buying a whole new dizzy, popped it on and boom no hesitation the car start up. I guess it wasn't my main relay because I could still hear the fuel pump prime and it's not the fuel pump because again I heard it. Thank you all for the help guys it's about time to drive her!!

Re: 95 Integra GSR died randomly while on the road
This sounds all too similar to what happened to me a while back. Ended up being the dizzy. Glad it's fixed
