...:: 94 Integra LS - FAILED EMISSIONS - HELP! ::...
Just picked up my 94 LS and decided to take it to get smogged so I can transfer the title to myself ... took the test and FAILED emissions. Pic below of the test results
Now being that I just got it, I haven't done a tune up on it yet. Wondering what I can do to help it pass. I was thinking a quick tune up? Anyone else run into this? It baaaaaaaaarely failed.
Thanks!!

i read somewhere that it's better to go get tested on a low tank of gas? makes no sense to me but i JUST filled up before I took the test if that matters ...

change your oil right before the smog, you'd be surprised how much an oil change can reduce your smog number. High HC means unburnt fuel, look into new plugs and run high octane gas. Some swear that using "heat" brand gas treatment water remover with methanol will cause a reduction in HC numbers. Also, the sheet says your timing is set to 16 degrees, you may wanna try advancing a degree, it should lower your HC but raise the NO a bit, but you have some room for NO to go up and still pass.
Also, make sure your Catalytic converter is really hot before you get there, a cold cat. will drastically increase your emission numbers.

should I run the treatment on the full tank of 87 i just put in? or throw it in the same day of the re-test with some 91? ..... or throw the heat treatment in with some 91 and let that tank run out?

I had an issue where my engine(stock b20z so very similiar) failed to pass a smog test. what I did was use seafoam(just look for instructions off the net) then I pounded on the car turned it off and ran it once more at idle with some engine flush, then I changed my oil(with syntec),changed my pcv valve and plugs,cleaned my fast idle valve,Iacv,flushed the coolant,adjusted my valves,reset my computer and ran a bottle of smogpass (liquid sold at auto stores to pass a smog test) through a full tank of 94 octane,ran it untill my tank was empty,than I filled it with 94 octane and went directly to a smog test center and the car passed with flying colours. all this costed $90 including high end oil that was used(doesnt include gas obviously).

DO NOT smog while the emission pass cleaner is in your gas tank, it will cause your numbers to be higher as it will be passing all the carbon gunk out of your tailpipe. Run the gas tank with the emission pass first, then immediately fill up with high octane and drive the car hard and get the cat real hot, then go smog.

Was your car at operating temp when you pulled it to get the emissions test?
A cat that isn't hot will cause higher emissions.

it was at operating temp but i didn't drive it for more than 5 minutes before getting there ... left work early, filled up the tank and went straight to the smog place. then had to wait about 10-15 minutes for my appt ... next time I'm leaving it on

put a couple of gallons of E85 in. it drastically reduces HC emissions. try 5-6 gal of 91 and 2-3 gal of E85 then test

ok ... ran my tank with the 'smog pass' stuff, did a full tune up (cap rotor and plugs), changed the oil and filled up with 91 before going to take my re-test ... ran the car about 30 - 45 minutes to make sure the cat was hot and still FAILED
The HC numbers were 90 (15 mph) and 64 (25 mph) ... actually got worse ... any ideas??
I was thinking of replacing the cat but how do you know if it's even bad?

Re: ...:: 94 Integra LS - FAILED EMISSIONS - HELP! ::...
I just bought a 96 GSR a month ago, when I did the smog, I had same issues, didnt pass the 1st test, the guy reved my car for almost 10 mins, it then barely passed. He told me the CAT is old and it has a leak. I had 95 GSR 2 yrs ago, CAT made the noise like my current one( CAT leak). Which is pretty common for older Honda/Acura vehicles. my 95 GSR passes smog with out any probs, it had lower mileage and I also maintained the car really well. If it passes this time, I wouldnt worry about it too much.

[QUOTE=LOVEthatDC2;38661922]yeh I'm not so sure the guy maintained it very well and its SUPER low so I'm sure the cat is dead ... scrapes everywhere, here's a pic ...
haha, body condition is better than my 96 GSR tho. When I bought it clutch was out, engine mount cracked, broken axle, cat leak, abs, paint is pretty much no good, then after I bought it and realized he wasnt using 91 GAS before. Evn tho he told me that he did all services, once I got it from hin, I did another service for it and fixed all engine problems, except the body and if it wasnt for a GSR I would never even consider buying it. I had one before, loved it so I bought it.
