Default 90 Acura Integra Tranny Problem Broke a piece off

Today i drove for 3 hours home because i stayed at my sisters for a few days for easter. I got all the way home and i was so close to going to bed but decided to run to autozone quickly. I pulled onto the main street and second gear acted weird so i switched into 3 gear and i heard a loud metal noise blow so i pulled over and i looked under my car and a pool of oil came out of the tranny. I looked back and i found a chunk of my transmission case on the ground. I tried moving the gears around but they were very hard to move, it felt like they were glued and hard to move. 1 piece was just off of the outside of the transmission. I could see where it came off. Is the transmission gong, what coulda caused the problem and if the tranny is not dead, can i weld the part back on. Thanks

sounds like what happened to me. Can you see a big nut inside the tranny where the hole is? If so, the counter shaft nut backed off of the shaft when you were backing up. It can only back off so far before it knocks a hole in the case. I bought a ebay tranny and made one good tranny from the two. I wouldnt try to weld it. Your gearsets should be fine but inspect all of the roller bearings to see if one seized up causing the shaft to spin. I drove mine all day with the hole in it. It was really hard to get in reverse though. I hope this helps.

hey bro, you just blew out your diff, it happened to me and it sucks,

bleeds fluid all over the ground, the gear stick is nearly impossible to move.... you need a new tranny.

just cursious. where you using two different sized tires on the front? Or one bald, one sticky? That was what caused my diff to fail, one tire was bald one was not, and so the diff was constantly working and eventually failed.

it's a blessing in disguise though, now you can replace it with a b16 short geared tranny and pick up nearly half a second in the 1/4 mile.
