1998 integra gsr issues with oil in spark plug.
Here it goes,
My car has 256k miles and the check engine light came on awhile back but it ran fine so I just thought it's the stupid canister triggering it again so I just let drive with it. Yesterday when I was coming home I noticed that my car is kind of sputtering and the check engine light flashed a few times while I was trying to accelerate.
This morning I went to check on the car and took out the spark plugs, it turns out all 4 spark plugs were drenched with oil. The bottom top was fine but the top part was oily and so was the spark plug wires. I then proceeded to take all 4 spark plugs out and just dried it up. I plugged them all back, wiping down all 4 plugs and the wires and started the car again. Again it's kind of sputtering and there were a lot of blue smoke coming out of the tail pipe. What's that blue smoke for? And does anyone know what else can be wrong with my car besides the oil in the plugs? I just need to change the grommets right? and prob the spark plug wires. What does everyone think?
Thanks

i have oil in 3 of my 4 spark plugs, drives fine, its not your oil in spark plugs, and for you to fix that you need a new vavle cover gasket, and some new spark plugs maybe the're going bad? but sputtering? has to be different problem

Get a complete valve cover gasket set and change it out , the oil is probably leaking past the spark plugs into the combustion chamber but thats just a guess..

yeah oil got in when you took the spark plugs out.
get an OEM valve cover gasket set. torque the valve cover to 8-9ft pd and in the correct sequence and you wont have anymore leaks. also put a dab of hondabond at the edges of the valve cover gasket.

while the honda set is better, the full set with the button gaskets is expensive. i've used the felpro set which is complete with all button gaskets on a few different engines and none have leaked. the two most important things are to make sure the surface is very clean and not to over torque or in the wrong sequence. using a 1/4" wrench that does in/lb is much more accurate that ft/lb. most 3/8 and especially 1/2" torque wrenches aren't the best tool for such a low torque value. somewhere between 100 and 120 inch pounds would be where you would torque.
personally i can get these more or less right on by feel, but, that's a learned skill

Re: 1998 integra gsr issues with oil in spark plug.
it depends on how much oil is in the tubes.
if it's just a little its not going to kill the spark but if it's up to the plug wire and you cant see the plugs in the hole it will weaken the spark and be very hard on the coil.
fix the valve cover gasket and get new wires. and i would just do a full tune up while your there just to rule out cap, rotor and spark plugs

[QUOTE=1998_4dr_gsr;47618176]
If that was ever an option, you should have done it to begin with. Blue smoke is from burning oil, and you're burning oil because the valve cover gasket has failed. Buy a complete set as mentioned earlier and that should fix the problem.

got the car back and it still ran shitty. I went to oreilly and bought spark plug wires, spark plugs, cap and rotor and changed it myself. Now the car runs like new.
Happy ending!
