Default Test Exhaust for The Great Header Test

Here is the SMS cat back for the Great Header Test!

Custom made by Dave @ SMS Products. Here is a description:

This is the full 2-1/2" OD 16g (.065" wall) 304L stainless steel system. It consists of 6 mandrel bent pieces and some straight ones. The resonator is the 22" long body Magnaflow (aluminized steel, since they only offer the stainless one in a 14" long body). The muffler is also Maganflow, their 4" x 9" offset/center version. Since cats used on JDM headers are 2-1/2" ID, the inlet tubing at this B pipe is tapered to have 2-1/2" -2-9/16" ID so there will be no flow obstructions due to a 2-1/2" catalytic converter. I don't know of any other systems that have this feature, although I have not seen the specs on the new HyTech exhaust. I also do a slip jointed flange for the muffler inlet versus a flanged joint somewhere else in the system. This ensures that the joint is perfectly in line when assembled.

Looks pretty nice!

I thought the test was going to be done on a stock ITR. Maybe I was just a bit confused

Yes, a stock ITR as in no cam gears, VAFC, i.e. engines mods but we are changing the exhaust to 2-1/2" to match all the JDM headers.

Any chance you'll be selling this after the test? I'd be interested if you were. Thanks.

Well, it's only got a measly 2-1/2" tip and you don't see alot of the muffler from behind. Maybe will go to 2-3/4" or 3" for the production version, probably 2-3/4".

About how much would the production version end up costing. Any idea on how that would sound with a test pipe, raspy as hell?

Well the header test is being conducted with a test pipe and I think we'll have some video/audio of the runs so hopefully the quality of the audio will be sufficient to answer your question. Price still to be determined on the bolt on system.

Dave is that one different than the one you made for Chris (RStoR)?

I am still confused. So is there going to be a base run with stock header, cat and exhaust?

RStoR's used a shorter 14" resonator, mild steel tubing and (2) 45s versus the second 90 in this system. The mufflers are the same size and configuration but this one has a polished stainless steel body.

1fastgsr, yes I believe there will be a base/totally stock run.

Do the different headers in the test have different audible characteristics? Will we be able to hear any differences during the dyno pulls?

Since I base run with stock header, cat and exhaust will be done firts, I think the headers with a 2" collector (Comptech, JG, etc) should be tested first. I don't think Dave is bringing a cat to connect to a header with a 2" collector.

I've got a Comptech Header which flares out to a 2 1/2" OD that is stock length.
If you folks would like to use it for your tests so there is no need to change the exhaust twice, let me know.

Currently it is on the car, I can easily remove it and ship it to you guys.

Again let me know.

Stock length meaning that the 2-1/2" collector ends in the same place as the 2" one did or same length as a JDM header?
