Accord check engine light...
my sister has a 98 LX with the check engine light on. how would i go about in checking for the engine diagnostic code because there isn't a service plug such as on civic/integra's on the passenger side kick panel? one problem it's having is the throttle hesitates when cold. any suggestions? thanks in advance.
well the cheap way to go about would be to take it to autozone and get the code pulled down i think they do it for free and you can be directed on whats wrong then.. but you cant get the code unless you have a scaner.. cant jump wires like the older accords and civics
yes, you can still get the codes without a scanner. the service plug is on the driver's side, right near the hood latch. jump terminals 8 and 13.
nice move with the terminal jumping....but if i were the kinda guy fixing a problem on my sister's accord i would take it to auto zone and get it done for free
yeah, he could.. but i'm assuming he has at least a little experience, since he mentioned terminal jumping on civics and integras. either way....
i haven't got a chance to take a look at the plug yet but how do i determine which terminal is which on the plug? are they certain colored wires or anything? what about the code. are they consistant with civic's? anyways, as with the problem i've stated, it doesn't seem to be major... probably just a sensor or something. can anybody suggest what it might be?

when looking at the plug, you should see a tapered side, facing towards the center of the car. #8 is on the tapered side, on the very bottom. #13 is on the left, 4th from the bottom.

turn this crude drawing ^^ clockwise 90 degrees, and that's what you should see. short side faces towards center, long side faces toward driver's side of car.
EDIT: once you get the code, if you need a description of what it is, post it here or PM me. a bunch of people here can tell you what the code is for.

it has a code 45. is that "fuel system too rich or lean"? (which would make sense considering what it's doing.) and if so, what could possibly cause that?
the car was in a shop before and they suggested replacing the fuel pump but i didn't think that would be the problem because it's working. right? my guess is it could just be any number of sensors including the o2 sensor. help!
