best intake? not cai
My first instinct is to say that if you don't go with a cold-air intake, why bother at all?
In all fairness, though, there may be one cold-air intake you haven't considered... The stock Type-R intake draws cold air in from high in the fender, so there's no danger of water-suck.

About any intake will up me about 5hp just getting rid of that damn box they stick on there. I know cold air is better but i need this motor to last over 150000 after i get some miles on it cold air will be added. How hard is it to get ahold of the intake your talking about?
You could probably do it yourself. It's not all that complicated:
BTW, if you REALLY decide you don't want a cold air intake, I've got an HKS intake that I'm willing to get rid of.

I lopped mine off at the wrist... Errr, at theresonator junction I mean. Sorry about that Ash-ism. I noticed a little more nown low, but nothing drastic. I've since gone ahead and made a BSQ-esque DIY icebox that is a good deal better. Find BSQ's profile and go to his homepage. It's got the instructions there. My only modifications to his design were enlarging the hole in the stock box to a full 3.5" circle and ducting from the grill (I had to cut out one of my fog-light thingies) instead of the turn signal. I also put some mesh screen over the hole to a) disguise it, and b)keep bugs out. Works great, and cost less than $10.
How do i find his homepage? for the intake instructions?

all short ram intakes perform the same. They ad about 4 whp over stock. The cheapest thing to do if you do not want a CAI is to remove the resonator and replace the stock paper intake for a K&N filter. Leave the filter inside the air box.
