Default Removing Scratches...

The other day I had the novel idea of washing the car in the driveway since it wasn't dirty enough to require use of a car wash. So I washed it using a dishwashing sponge (big mistake) and now it's got scratches all over it. They are somewhat superficial, basically look like a bunch of swirl marks. I bought some scratch remover for it which did absolutely nothing. So now there are scratches pretty much all over the car and I'm at a loss how to get them off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dish soap removes almost all waxes. You might want to look into a cleaner with a nice wax or something. I use .zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc I like the stuff

Did you use the dish sponge that is yellow and green? I used that once on my car to get out random spots that I couldn't get out with just scrubbing hard and ended up with a bunch of random swirl marks like you describe.

I tried using 3M Imperial Rubbing Compund - Medium Cut and the swirl marks did get lighter, but are still present.

The next step I think is Heavy Cut and thats something that you can try, but without caution you do run the risk of getting too deep into your paint.

By the way, my car is white and you can only see the marks if you look at it in certain light, that's why I haven't tested the Heavy Cut.

Good luck.

It's also a classic mistake. As well as washing with a circular motion. Saw a piece on Motorweek about this. Another mistake due to grit building up in the pail. Always use one of the pail dohickeymajigs that keeps the sponge from touching the bottom of the pail.
