Well, this came as a rather embarrassing suprise today...
Evidently I didn't ever properly inspect my motor mounts after buying the '88. I knew that the front tranny mount was broken and I intended to replace it when I replaced the motor, but since all of the other mounts were under some downward force they sure looked okay to me. Well, they weren't:

I post this only as a friendly reminder to go outside today and really look over your motor mounts. Sometimes it's not possible to see they are broken unless you unload them. Apparently I have been driving with zero intact motor mounts...sweet...

Nice collection you have there.
Are those the cool new JDM two piece mounts that I read about in SuperSportTunerModifiedCompactStreetCar Magazine? Is that billet rubber or just cast?

I'm pretty sure they are made that way on purpose. It's just like the rods that are cast as one piece then cracked apart. That way they can only go back together one way and cannot be accidently interchanged. That makes it much easier to put the motor back in when it falls out. I rip all my new mounts apart before I install them so I don't have to worry about mixing them up later.
Travis-
That is exactly what mine looked like about half way through this last season. It makes a very nice difference in throttle response once you replace them.. Especially if you go to some solid mounts.

you know, while they LOOK the same, mugen mounts are still ILLEGAL, so as travis' legal representative, i counsel my client to remain silent to that question.
Put them on ebay as "2 Piece JDM Motor Mounts."
I betcha someone buys them.
Scott, who says they are 2 piece and the car was built in Japan so its not a dishonest listing.

Wait a second... are you telling me that every single mount was completely torn?

ok, is there really any difference in the two though? thats my main concern, mugen (king motorsports) says that mugen makes them with harder rubber, yet the rear trailing arm bushings are the same for honda and mugen...

I have had the Mugen and the Honda rear trailing arm bushings and they were not the same. Look nearly identical even up close but the mold numbers were different and messing with them by hand they sure seemed quite a bit firmer. I beleive the 25% firmer statement that I have heard.

Upon visual inspection of my old car it was obvious the liquid filled one was broken. When I replaced all five with the ES/PR bushings, it then became quite clear that ALL!!! of them were broken. I could not believe it.
Surprisingly enough my intake manifold wasn't hitting my firewall, but damn if it didn't feel about a million times better once the new mounts were in.
Just goes to show ya never know.

with my B16, the hasport mounts were so shot, that, during hard cornering and high rpms, the engine/gearbox would move so much, that, it would tug on the shift linkage and pop out of gear.
not cool at all.

The Mugen mounts are illegal for him.
But hey, you guys enjoy suggesting it. Seems like the thing to do.
When my rear tranny mount stripped out earlier this year the intake box (its a dual point car) started banging the underside of the hood. I have a nice dent there now.
I can't imagine that this motor wasn't beating and banging on everything under there.

While the pubic hair post does, in general, make me want to move to a secluded cabin in the woods. I think the most disappointing thing is that it was reply #10 before anyone pointed out that "pubical" isn't a word.
Then again, I think Karl mentioned something about working in a pubical at IBM...

You mean things get better when the motor is actually attached to the car? Sweet.

Yup, every single mount. You would think that the motor would be popping the hood with every throttle input but I swear it wasn't hitting anything. I'm sure these were broken when I drove it home the first time so I don't really have any frame of reference. All I know is that the motor didn't torque as much as you might think while on throttle (even with the hood up and looking at it) and it didn't contact anything. Nor did I ever miss shifts or pop out of gear. I honestly wouldn't have known without removing them.

You are correct for ITA rules. However, since I am racing almost exclusively with HC this season I ended up buying a complete set of Mugen mounts and a single OEM Honda rear mount. This is legal for HC and I can easily change the other three mounts to OEM in the years to come if I start doing IT events exclusively. Normally it wouldn't be worth the trouble, but the price is amazingly similar betewen mount sets.
