Default LS turbo - What tranny is best for setup?

What transmission would be best for a LS turbo setup? and why?

Gsr? Itr? B16?

This setup will be mainly used for drag racing.

Thanks in advance.

If you got the money, Type R LSD.

Both USDM ITR and Si have identical gearing and 4.40 FD.

then why is everyone saying type r lsd?

because of the oem lsd?

then i guess it all depends on how much power he's making

because i would take it for me, with a 550+hp car,

that b16a and a quaife would be better than a type r with oem lsd right?

and where do gsr trannies rank on the FI scale

Yes. Case in point, my buddy just went to the track with some of his friends last week. He's got a 303whp LS w/ GSR tranny, his friend has a 260whp GSR (EK coupe) with an ITR tranny.

Best 60' time the lighter hatch w/ DR's put down was a 2.2 and ran a 12.8 @ 112, the much heavier EX coupe put down a 2.0 60' on DR's and the LSD and cut a 12.5 @ 110 making ~40whp less

Gotta love 'dem LSD's! BTW, I very much like the GSR tranny on a boosted LS It's a night and day difference IMO.

You might be thinking of the 92-93 GS-R which had the same 1-4 as Si/ITR but used a .88 5th vs. the .84 5th of the ITR and Si

I've also heard rumors that the Si's didn't actually come with 4.40 FD's as advertised but rather had a 4.26, never really saw any 100% proof on it though?

i have a ls turbo right now with a b16 trans and it runs strong with it. i will soon be gettin an lsd but not sure which one yet. the obx one has really been turning heads with the similar structure and quality as the quaife (not sure if i spelled it right) it also has a lifetime warranty. i don't have any numbers right now but when i do in about a month i will be sure to post. good luck with urs.

to ls turbos.

here is thread i started on jdmu about 2 months ago or so. good luck.

ITs is a good tranny with a good LSD but the gearing is too short since a LS only revs to 7k. I have a gsr and i still dont like it....i think the best tranny would be a GSR with a LS 4th gear and a quaife LSD....but thats just me

Well since the 1st and 2nd gears are the same in a GSR and LS, and the LS has a longer 3rd, 4th, and 5th I will probably go with an LS. Not b/c of the whole longer gearing is better, but b/c i drive my car 80 miles a day and I want to have something that isnt always in the high rpms. So Ill be getting an LS with GSR final drive and probably the OBX LSD also.

I plan on running the my LS turbo with the stock LS tranny, i think it will still be pretty damn fast. 1st and second gears are the same as the gsr tranny, 3rd is longer though. I'll take a longer 3rd gear and what not because it's my daily and I like the longer gears, I don't want to shift all day and get crappy gas mileage.

stick with the LS tranny.

Its the same, but it wont be as fast in 1st or 2nd gear as a GSR tranny b/c the final drive is shorter. Which contributes to all the gears being a tad slower than if they had a 4.4 final drive.

yes its true the ls will give you better gas mileage...especially with highway driving. but having had both the ls and gsr tranny on my ls turbo setup ... its a night and day comparison in the two. it was worth the 30 miles a tank in gas that i lost
