a;right dude i hope you have a wiring diagram.

If you put one lead on battery positive and the othe ron the coil negative (-) screw and crank the engine (with the dist cover off) voltage shoul dbe like between 4 and 8 volts. this is cause the ignitor is rapidly swithcing the voltage from open and ground (12 volts and 0.1 volts averaged together). if not check the wire from the ECU to the ignitor for the same voltage so iit can tell the ignitor to fire.

not really. to check it it has to have power. You basically check to make sure that it's getting a signal from the ecu, and if it is it should ground and unground the coil. If you really wanted to bench test it, you'd have to kind of set up a whole mock ignition system

The quickest check for ignitor is to take distributor cap off and put a test light on the coil (-) screw terminal, and put the other end on battery positive. Crank engine and if the light flashes and you're not getting spark then your coil is bad, if it doesn't flash it's 9 times out of 10 your ignitor. The only other things it could be would be TDC/CYL/CMP sensors inside the distributor, or the ecu, which are both pretty damn expensive.

Hope that helps.
