Official TPS Adjust Thread. Code 7 . Throttle Position Sensor *HELP*
So I just got my Crx. Never really done any major work on a D series motor but I want to learn.
I bought the car and drove it and it was perfect but Ive had it for 3 days now and I got on the gas and started to redline some gears, look down at the cluster
Check
Engine
****, Its a code 7, look it up. TPS. Did a little research but couldnt find any info on how to adjust it
1.How do you take a voltage measurement from it with a Multimeter?
2.How do you adjust it (still riveted) if the readin is bad
3.How do you tell if it needs to be replaced
4.Complete replace steps
Now if people search they will always see this thread and I hope all 4 questions above will be answerred. Need to car to run great for a race against a Laser on monday.
Thanks for any good related info

Im throwing a code 7 myself
Havent gotten around to adjusting/checking or whatever.
Hope this thread will throw some useful info, I also had **** luck searching

the way i have checked the voltage reading from my tps was to connect the red wire from the multimeter to the middle wire that goes to the tps sensor(i thinkits red, and you have to cut a little bit of the plastic away to expose the inner wire), and connect the black multimeter lead to a suitable ground.
after doing that, you turn the key to the on position and the voltage should be .5 at idle, and 4.5 at wot.
to replace it, you have to cut a slot into the rivet looking screws that hold the tps in place, and once you slot it you shold be able to back the screws out. then put the new one in, use your multimeter to get the voltage readings correct, and tighten the screws in.
to adjust without replacing it, you would still need to slot the rivets so you can adjust the tps, without removing it.
also, when i first tried to do this i was using the "ohm" setting on my multimeter, but the readings wouldnt ever work. so i ahd to switch to the dc setting and it worked. good luck and i hope this helps. joe.

So by "on" position you mean just before the car is started right?
Idle meaning the car just sitting there and I check WOT by just throwing a brick on the pedal?
Also is there a way to see if the tps needs to be replaced
good info so far

yes the position right before it cranks the motor.
you dont have to have the car running to check idle and wot position.
the tps should read .5 with the throttle close, and if you push the throttle it should read 4.5 at wot. also, it helps to have a second person to help you, but you can manually move the throttle rotor in the engine bay so you can get your readings.
as far as knowing if it SHOULD be replaced, i dont have a clue.
i would think if its not reading the correct voltage, or if the transition from idle to wot is erratic. gl.

Yeah you dont check the voltage at WOT with the car running and bouncing off the rev-limiter. Just have the key in the "on" position.
Good luck. I have to replace mine too since it broke moving around/installing my motor.

^^ ******* confusing
Im first gonna check the measurement to make sure its out of wack, then if it is Ill adjust it and hope everything is cool
Or if its in spec but still throwing a code, off to the junk yard I go

Mine wasn't riveted, if someone who has removed the rivets on theirs wants to do a write-up I would love to add that to my site.
