Ok guys...I have been searching on how to do the Auto to Manual conversion on my EG hatch forever now (waaaay too long) and still came up with one last question. What engine wiring harness do I use? Can I use the auto DX wiring harness with new motor going in? (D16Z6) Every post I read or pm I get doesnt make clear on this portion of the conversion and im pretty sure its really simple.

Basically, here is the setup:

1992 Honda Civic DX Auto

Converting to Manual d16z6 w/ p28

So can I use the Auto DX wiring harness and run one wire for vtec...or do I have to grab a SI or EX engine harness from the junkyard? Thanks!

What about plugs that run to the auto tranny? Just tuck them away somewhere safe?

yes and wire VTEC front the engine to your ECU...DX doesn't have the VTEC wires in the harness..

What happens to the clutch switch on a 99 Civic when doing an auto to manual conversion? i know it has to go to the ecu but is it 12v or 5v or what?

 

hey u just have to cut and splice the power wires on the auto shifter u will no longer have to put in the clutch but it will allow u to start the car.

what about the reverse lights how do you wire thoses up, colors of wires would help out alot

 

i did my conversion early this year didnt have to cut no wires. What you do is leave your car in park the whole time and put some glue in there so it wont move and it should work fine. for the reverse lights im still working on it ill let you know soon. And for the clutch sensor all it does is let you start the car without pushing the clutch in. Your only concern might be the map sensor in the throttle body.

crx_88_si you are the man! That was a very useful link. Sorry for the long wait on the pix guys....im slowly getting through it between school and work. Than Frances had to come along and beat down on FL for a weekend. But other than that it should be done around late september. Ill post pics soon.

as you can see...its a little bit more than an auto to manual conversion.

 

Im not sure if you know or not.. on the 92-95 civics the auto upper tranny mount is different then the manual one. I mean the actual body mount. you are either going to have to weld a different one in there or get the hasport mount.

jmdshit.com makes one too, that is the one i used on my hatch. it was like 130 buck but it fit perfect and has a solid rubber mount in it. i'm pleased with it.

Way ahead of you mang.

 

If you didn't alredy figure out how to wire the back up lights, this is how you do it. You have to splice the wires off the backup sensor on the tranny, and look to see where they go in the auto shifter. CUt the corresponding wires and wire them up. All that back up sensor is, is a switch so when it get pushed up the lights will come one. Pretty easy to do.

 

Also if you don't want to keep the big white thing in there like that link showed. Just cut the two big fat wires on that big white clip and wire them together, then throw the white thing in the trash.. haha, but remember to remove the blue box or you can't take the key out, and make sure your brake sending unit thing, its on the pedal is at the same distance the other one was or your brake lights will stay on all the time.

Are the wires the same color from the tranny sensor to the auto wires?

 

I am not sure, I don't really want to take apart my console to look, but they are the bottom two wires that are just under the big fat ones, in that big connector. Just play with them until you get the right combonation. Its not hard, takes 10 minutes, all you really need to do it look where the wires go and where they correspond to your auto shifter.

 

OK! Fianlly got some updates for you guys....Dont worry all the info will be recorded and posted in a new auto to manual thread for other EG dudes to use....

I also installed ES solid motor mounts on the car but i am having one huge problem....The rear tranny bracket is having a hard time lining up correctly...ive tried everything from crow bars to srew drivers and the rear tranny bracket seems to not want to line up with the rear chassis mount...I used the AT rear tranny bracket, maybe this is why it doesnt line up??? Does ne one kno if the MT and AT rear tranny brackets are different?

heres the problem...

 

you are so close to getting the rear mount lined up, I would try putting a jack under the motor and loosening the other 2 side mounts and seeing if you can line the back one up. then worry about the side mounts last since they are easy to get to. go from hardest to easiest

 

SUCCESS!!! I got that bitch in after getting bitten up by 1000 mosquitos and smashing my hand 3 times with the hammer....i got it! It was just a matter of flexing the bracket and unbolting a few bolts....theyre not kidding when they say SOLID motor mounts...

But i really never had that problem with the EF motor mounts (d16 ones that is)....maybe its the hasport mount that made things a little more tight.
