Default Ok so maybe I missed out on the "Great Intake test".......

Seeing as we're conducting the Header test, I was just wondering if anyone out there has compared intakes on the dyno? I was talking to a couple of my friends between the merits of the CAI Vs. Short Ram Vs. Stock tubing with K&N filter ( i know sgt is a fan of the last setup)...

So has anyone done it? Because I sat and thought and there are a lot of options out there

aem cai
aem short ram
injen cai
injen short ram?
dc dac
comptech icebox
mugen
arc box

or

stock tubing with:
K&N filter
Comptech Filter
Spoon filter
Monster filter (i think i heard somewhere monster makes spoon's filters? not sure bout that one tho)....

all I can show you is this comparison that was done on my car. At the time the only other modification to the car was an apex'i N1 cat back.

Blue is AEM, Red is Injen

Pretty equal performance-wise. My car is always above 5k rpm on the road course, I'll stick with the AEM

i guess when i finally get around to dyno, i'll test out the aem cai vs stock intake(minus resonator) vs stock tubing(minus resonator) with K&N filter

I was already planning on doing an Intake test even though alot of you already have one, I just want to do it for my own piece of mind.
I planned on testing
ARC Full setup
ARC box with Stock intake tube
AEM CAI
Stock intake with modified resonator and K&N Filter
Stock tube with Comptech filter
Comptech short ram

If anyone has a Mugen intake that they would like to send to me to add to the test I will add it, but Im not about to go out and buy one for a test. Only problem are the AC Lines. For testing purposes I can get away with them not being modified for the ARC, but the Mugen would need them to be modified or removed. Again if anyone wants to send me the intake I will just remove the AC lines.

All being tested on a 2000 ITR with JDM 4-1, Car sound cat, Thermal cat back

Wait...you have the "Mugen one on"???? Does that mean you ended up persuading the AC lines by hand or did you take it to a professional and have them rerouted?! Details please...

I ended up persuading the A/C lines by hand. I still have to try the A/C and make sure I didn't create a leak or anything. It was a big PITA though to get it in their. I will take some pics too, and give a brief discription of how it went.

is anyone going to comment on the Injen curve on Speedpak's dyno?

I think you can clean up the torque curve from VTEC switch to 7000 rpm quite easily with tuning.

The differential in horsepower from 7000 rpm upwards is what will separate out the Injen from the AEM in the "big motor" combinations with extreme cams , 9000 rpm+ redlines, and "big" headers since the torque curves are also different after 7000 rpm and my question is : can you tune the AEM torque curve after 7000 rpm? From my experience, getting a nosediving torque curve at the upper rpms to sing a little more soprano is not going to happen unless you sacrifice powerband width and make the engine peaky. Going to an even bigger diameter intake would accomplish that.

IMHO,velocity stack assemblies do make a difference up top and I think AEM should not have dumped them from their lineup and switched to k&n filter elements.

Hope to hear from your comments as well as from Speedpak .

cheers
