SRD sucks. My D16z6 blew, and I went to SRD to have it replaced. I figured that while I was replacing it, I might as well upgrade my clutch while I was at it, so With the engine + work + act stage 1 clutch = $1700.
I dropped my car off, and 2 days later I picked it up. Payment was made in full. While I was there I made sure to ask whether or not I needed to break-in the motor or clutch, and they said no, get on it as much as you want. I was worried because I was planning a trip to California with my girlfriend.
2 weeks went by with me driving around town stop-go traffic, I really didnt race or push it hard, and then coming home from avondale one night, my engine started to over heat. I pulled over immediately and made sure to let the car kool down.
The next day, I contacted SRD (keep in mind that the engine never fully overheated, and it was less the 500 miles on the motor: their warrenty) I took it down to them and come to find out, the motor had spun a bearing, the same thing that happen to my old motor. I drop my car off, 3 days later I go to pick it up and they want $1300. I told them that under their warrenty agreement, it should be free, but they wouldnt give me the keys until I paid them. I fought with the head guy until he agreed that I have to pay for the work, but not the motor. I was so tired of their BS i paid him and took my car and left.
******CLIFF NOTES***********
SRD did a swap for me, it blew 2 weeks later, then wouldnt cover it under warrenty. Made me pay for a second motor after already installing it without me agreeing to pay for it. Then when I picked up the car, make me pay for the 2nd motor.

well, I can't really say anything about your situation since I only heard your side of it and we all know there are two sides to one story. It sucks either way that your motor spun a bearing though.
Personally though, I have done business with them twice now. Both Mike and Joe are great people. Mike has answered all my emails, been very pollite about things and a big help. They get a

I have not had a problem from SRD either - I totally trust them. I had a problem with my auto trans slipping in my Civic so I took it to Cottman Transmission on Country Club in Mesa (those guys are CROOKS!) - they wanted to charge me over $700 to fix the problem so I was like F-THEM! - took it to SRD and they were totally honest with me and it turns out it was just low on fluid....
I totally trust those guys now and would prefer taking it to their shop above all others...

Well, I wouldnt go getting any swaps done with them then. Honestly though, I understand why they wanted to charge me, but in my particular situation, it should have been covered under warrenty. If I had beat on the engine or abused it, I could see paying for another motor, but I didnt, and thats what bothered me. Basically they provided a product that was defective and wanted me to pay twice for it, and I kinda did pay twice.
The sad part is, a friend of mine had a problem with them and I still went through them knowing what happen to him.
He had them do a B18c swap and about 3 weeks after the job was done, the motor mounts broke!! We were driving and his engine just fell and smashed his DC header. He went to them and told them what happen and they said there was a batch of bad motor mounts, and his car had some of that batch. They replaced his mounts, but not his header. Thats bad business, and he should have sued them under Liability, but oh well.

both of those cases probably could have been handled a little better on their part but if i was the owner of SRD then i would have done the same thing.
You got a motor swap and the warrenty is very limited due to the fact that they dont know how hard you push the engine after the swap. So it is on a case by case basis, as is the same with any shop that does swaps.
It is not SRD's fault that the mounts were bad, i am sure had they know that those were defective they wouldnt have installed them in the first place. And since they were only resposible for ehte defective parts(mounts) not the header i wouldnt have assumed they should pay for the header.
I know joe and a lot of my friends have gotten their swaps done there with no problems. If you treat them with respect they will do the same with you. They get a

Hey I here what your saying, and I understand why they wanted to charge me, but in my case, I tried to do everything in my power to make sure the warrenty wasnt void. ie pulling over when I did. I made sure that I called them as soon as it happen too. I didnt drive around on the car, and I took it too them as soon as I could the next day. (It was night when It started to over heat) Its true that they dont know how hard I pushed it, but they also provide a warrenty that they should have stood by. I know people that like SRD, and up until my situation I liked them too. I ordered a few things through them and never had a problem, I used to recommend them ALL the time, but if I knew that I was going to have to fork out 3000 I would have had them do a B16 instead. I understand that **** happens, but thats what warrenties are for, and I didnt even get to go to california.
If they would have said, as soon as you pull the car off the lot, its your problem, I would have never gone too them. They also said my radiator was cracked down the middle....now Im not a rocket scientist, but if that was true, the car WOULDNT have cooled down when I was driving it too SRD to have them fix it, unless GOD decided to blow on my motor right before I got there.

I understand this warrenty, but you must also understand, that BEFORE I went to them to have my motor installed, I asked about this warrenty. This was not a RACE motor, or a IMPORTED motor. However, JOE told me that the warrenty they receive from their supplier is passed onto the buyer. If this is False, then he lied to me! I dont think he is in the habit of doing that. I had other options, but because of my conversation with JOE before the swap, I went to them.

Joe called me tonight, but I was at work. Not sure what he wants, but I hope its not to bitch at me. Hopefully he will talk to me and not just clam up and think Im trhing to screw him. Personally, if they would have done something to compansate me for what happen, (i.e. Disconnect my price before I came to the shop, hooked me up with something free, or somthing) I dont think I would have been so mad when they tried to make me pay full price for a swap. OH YA, I didnt even upgrade my engine, it was just a straight swap!! Who pays for a straight swap that is going to beat on it? If I upgraded to a B16, B18, H22 or something more powerfull then YEAH, you better beleive Im going to run it hard

Joe from SRD called me again today. Basically to express his objection to my post, particularly my conclusion notation. He said it was immature and unintelligent.
HE IS RIGHT. Not only do I own SRD an apology for my conclusion remarks, but I owe H-T a apology for my blatant disregard, and lack of respect of misappropriation of my comment at the conclusion of my "Soap-Box" story. The forums are a powerful medium and I FORMALLY APOLOGIZE TO SRD, Particularly Joe, for my misuse of power and my comment. It was immature and unintelligent, and Im sorry I wrote it.
HOWEVER, the story still remains the same despite my final comment. The situation occurred as I described, but be aware, that this is my interpretation of the events. No one from SRD will post concerning this topic, as it would conflict with their policies.
IN DEFENSE OF SRD, Joe has agreed to arrange a meeting between himself and the other 2 partners of SRD, to see if we could come to some sort of accommodation for my unpleasant experience. I was not expecting this. I want it to be publicly known that at no time was my post intended to slander or cause any sort of defamation toward SRD. I posted my experience only in response to a direct question. Joe's willingness to meet with me, shows a good sense of customer satisfaction and will certainly be taken into consideration if I agree to the meeting.
H-Ts time:
WHAT DOES EVERYONE THINK I SHOULD DO?
Should I go ahead with the meeting?
or
Should I say screw it! Analogy: If you eat at a bad restaurant, you just don't go back!
