Default 2point6's Skunk2 manifold second go...

Well, I ran up to Locash racing to use their dyno and Hondata tuning skills in an effort to see a gain with the Skunk2 manifold on my car. After quite a bit of tuning, I ALMOST broke even with the Skunk2 Vs. Euro R. THe Skunk2 manifold DID make about 3 more WHP in the extreme top end (7600 rpm), However Lost HP and TQ all around starting low around 2000 RPM up through 6000 rpm. At times the dyno plots were almost overlapping, but the skunk2 was down 1-2 whp and TQ and at times more. This IS a back to back manifold comparison HEAT ADJUSTED... meaning no cooling time. My engine was operating at 185 degrees+ for all of the recordings. IMO the Skunk manifold is COMPARABLE at best to the Euro R. Given that the Euro R must be modified... The Skunk2 manifold's deletion of the EGR and relocation of te IACV, comes down to these 4 trade offs... Fitment, Emissions leagal, Modifications to the manifolds and Minor drivability differences. The skunk is a nice looking part, but it will be coming off of my car to be replaced with my Euro R manifold until a new product comes out... I will be posting the dyno graphs as I am awaiting an Email from Locash.

NOTE: MY SET-UP IS UNCOMMON... this does not mean gains CAN'T be made with this manifold. If you are willing to sacrifice low and mid to gain up high, this could work for you... so smile, most likely you didn't waste your money.

yeah, i'd rather have constant 1-2 hp in the low-mid range than 3hp top end too. post those graphs

i don't know about the cost of the euro r one but i do know it's a pain in the *** to modify it so it'll fit. I think 2.6 wrote a write-up on it, it may be on collective-racing.net, dunno though

id like to see a stock stroke h22a with the skunk2 manifold ont eh dyno, i suspect that the higher piston speeds may be looking for a higher velocity intake charge than the skunk2can provide, but then again i could jsut be talking out my *** too...

Would you suggest getting the Skunk2 if i have a stock IM on my prelude?
You didnt get results over the EuroR but would i over stock?

Wether or not the Skunk2 is better than the euro R well, that depends on what it does on a Stock or nearly stock engine. We will see.

I said this in my other post, so maybe we BOTH are talking out of our asses...lol. I believe there is something to the piston speed affecting the velocity of the intake charge.

Well its good to see you got more power out of it then that last dyno. I will be dynoing mine soon and i have a stock motor. It will be within 2 weeks. Broke U.P.S employee here. I will post the dyno as soon as im done. Hopefully someone else will have dynoed before that though.

just out of curiosity, to put the breaking-even in perspective, have you ever dynoed the euro-r vs stock with your car?

Nice, Pat McGroin went today for a baseline and made 110whp/122wtq. Nice numbers if you ask me.

CEL for VTEC pressure switch and the guy at Car-Tek told him to clean his VTEC Solenoid. I wasn't there, I'm just postng this b/c i think he might be too embarassed too.

I sent the charts to Scott's buddy, he may not have passed them on yet..

Here is a simple euro-r vs skunk2 manifold comparison, keep in mind that the ambient air temp was a few degrees cooler when testing the skunk2, but the coolant temps were near identical (~190)..

Runfile_033 is the Euro-R manifold
Runfile_042 is the Skunk2 manifold

Keep in mind that this is NOT anywhere near a stock h22a, and I would love to see a comparison on a stock h22a with the stock IAB manifold vs. the skunk2, I bet there would be some interesting gains and losses..

Thankyou, Joe for all the help.
BTW, if anyone is in the Phoenix area, I highly recomend Locash for any tuning needs. Superb service and attention to detail. It does make a difference. BTW, my Skunk2 manifold is up for sale.

very interested in seeing your mods and the differences between the 2 runs. When was the baseline run done, with what mods, etc.

Was this an untuned baseline vs tuned with S2 IM?
