It's not. That's at least $7K in damage to my poor little car.

hopefully they total it. I don't think you would want to have them try an fix it, especially with rear frame damage. Sorry about your loss.

Yeah I was surprised as well, the only difference was NO power, and I mean none, due to the exhaust. And the steering felt a little heavy...but I actually reached 100mph or so on 95 and 495 on the way back home and the car gave me no problems. It basically drives fine...there is no way they are going to total it, not even close...the damage would have had to be $18K or more for it to be a total. It will be back on the road in about 4 weeks.

Fuzzballs - selling the parts or building a hybrid (which I thought about) would be too time-consuming honestly...I dont have regular access to a proper garage, winter is coming up, plus I'm in school full-time. Sure a hybrid would be faster, but there's a reason why I bought an Integra instead of a Civic...I dont want a Civic. It's a beautiful car and I want it back.

I took it to a Honda dealer's bodyshop. The way I see it, I cant go wrong...the guys specialize in Hondas obviously, and the work is guaranteed by my insurance co.

My friends R was totaled because it was missing the interior and some engine parts, his insurance company totaled it, I'm surprised there letting you fix yours with that kind of damage? Anyhow, good luck with everything, hopefully things can work out for the better.

The major parts of the repairs are the frame, the floorboard, and the 2 panels (hatch and right rear quarter-panel). The reason it's not totalled is because of where the damage is...if I had hit that hard on the front where there are a lot more moving parts, it would probably be totalled.

Again...for it to be totalled, it would have had to exceed $18K worth of damage...and this may reach $8K, TOPS. why would they total it?

Ross,
I got hit behind the left rear wheel in a race this year and it was a fraction of what you have and it was $5,000 to fix like factory. If they replace everything with new factory panels it is a major amount of work to drill out the old spot welds and put the new panels in. It is worth it in my opinion to fix it but my gut feeling is that your car is a write off. Our insurance in BC is from our Government and they are very difficult to deal with and they write off R's that are not even close to what you have. I hope everything works out well and you are happy in the end. really sorry about your car and I hope you are OK.

Drove up to 100mph in that after you just crashed...? That takes some serious *****.

As for you car, I don't know much about repairing them. But I agree with you about not wanting a civic. After my first R was stolen, I looked at an Si, but after an R, there is no replacement for the $.

I'd rather have it... with all the repairs... than not have it.

Hybrids and such may be great, but the ITR must LIVE!

I agree w/ Jon7--100mph w/ that kind of damage is pretty damn death-defying. You're brave/insane!!!

I knew my car was ok...it felt a little sluggish but the BASIC HANDLING traits were unaffected...that is why I want to keep it. I intentionally drove it at speed to see if it was possible that I might have to live without it - as it turns out, I don't.

Warren's car was ten times worse than mine and he drives the snot out of it (on track) with no problems, so why the hell would I want to get rid of mine? Everyone I have talked to that has any kind of experience with this sort of thing has told me "your car will be back on the road with no problems." No offense to all who have told me to get rid of it (bacheson), but the car really does drive ok - once it gets fixed, I'm not going to waste my time getting my panties in a knot about what happened to it in the past. And in my present situation (my Dad helped me with the R), the only other option is to not have a car at all.

Victor - was there suspension damage? Mine has no suspension damage, which is obviously why I was able to drive it back.

it's really not all that bad, trust me. If it's driveable, it's really OK. This repair entails the replacement of the right rear quarter panel, the pulling of the right frame rail, the replacement of the hatch, and some bodywork. really not that gruesome, it just looks bad.

I am in denial because the car is going to get fixed. hence, I am denying that it's totalled. See?

I am a little testy though, because before the estimate came in I thought for sure it was done for. Thanks for wishing me good luck man.

Thanks for your kind words George. If people like you, Mike, etc, weren't behind me (and my car) in this situation, I would know I was fucked.

i think it looks worse than it is, i can't imagine alot if any frame damge (probably the rebound bar in the back.

It's looks as though the force was well distributed. New hatch, 2 rear quarter panels, bumper, spoiler and maybe a little pulling.
