need help registering my RHD ef8
sup, people at H-T im new here. But i was just wondering? i've recently bought a RHD ef8 but the problem is i need to know how to register it. can anyone help me? (PICS) are coming soon
Ive seen a legal rhd ek9, and the owner told me it cost A LOT to regester. He had to use us spec lights, windows, bumpers, cluster, exc.... Since the b16 is obd0, you likely have to go obd1. The people who do the regestering are super pricy also. Good luck man!!!
i was told that the best way to do it is to go out of state to register it for examples, Arizona & Utah is that true? or is there a better or faster way?
i tried it out here in nevada seemed not too bad. they just wanted me to put in a motor that was produced in the us. also you need a bill of sale and some shipping paper work.

Also, if you spend something like 2 months in california you have to file your car for regestration. I believe thats how it works. My friend has a rhd 2g teg, and he is having hell right now. He got a REF visit ticket. Good luck.
PS, his car was regestered under his GF name in Oregon.

if your in CALIFORNIA FORGET IT CHP has a ban on right-hand and any grey-market cars trying to be registered. So my advice find another state Arizona, New Mexico, Neveda etc. You can just forget about California. Plain and simple

I have a friend who baught a right hand drive ITR and his hook up said the minimum price that they would be able to drop down to was 10k to switch out all the parts needed to be leagl, like fenders, bumpers, glass,etc... The usaul price for anyone is said to be about 15k. He dares not to drive it around because if he gets caught thats automatic to the impound lot, supposedly if someone gets ahold of the car they can put a leen sale on the car and well lets just say your gonna be cryin. I hope your not driving that car around because it'll be up for grabs in a impound lot.
This guy is the son of the owner of Orient engines, jessie if your down in socal.

I think you are able to read up on it on the DMV site (vehicle code), but I think there is a 2 year grace period if you have a dealers license or something. Upon importing a car, you have to meet all the emmissions specs as well as DOT specs.
i dont think so buddy WELL, If you wanna register it legit
When it comes time to get your replacement VIN/ID which can only be attached by CHP... ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN
thats right im sure you know all about the legit process of regin' a RHD, you have a right hand drive right????? Well i do
if you get all thru this
* application for original registration (form REG 343)
* titling documnet or foregin motor vechicle bond
* vechicle verifcation (form REG 343)
*chain of ownership
---customs entry summary (for vehicles entering the U.S. prior to july 1, 1988)
---bills of sale to importer of record and all subsequent owners.
---non-USA vechile certifaction for vechiles less than 2 years old
or
---certificate of conformance for 1975 and newer year models, up to two years old
(motorex come to mind)
---EPA/DOT clearance letters, required on 1975 and newer models that are exempy for ARB certification
*statement of facts, new, nonresidential or imported vechiles (form REG256F). Required only on applications that DO NOT contains the non-USA certifaction (all used direct imports), if qualifying for the 1 of the exemptions.
*all registration and service fees due
*** this is all from the DMV boys anybody can pick it up just ask
VC 24007 it is unlawful to sell/register a vechile not certified to comply with CALIFORNIA emission requiredments, unless the vehicle is being sold for the purpose of being legally wrecked or dismantled
The DMV will refuse registration on direct import vechiles which are 1975 model year or newer, unless appropriate ARB certifcation is submitted there are ways around this
Thats just the beinging, of course there are LOOP holes and you can get the paper work trail started and even get a RED SQUARE to drive the car around as a PARTS CARS OR EVEN A KIT CAR, many ppls have gotten to this step without problems. The main problems today is getting your car retagged, or "blue-tagged" by CHP. A CHP VIN officer is not stupid by any means, they know whats up with these cars. Kinda like the SMOG tickets that everyone gets, when they pop your hood. Kinda funny how they all know about fuel rails, FPR's, headers and what not.
They know ther GREY-MARKET cars. I used to go up to REDDING to have the car verified and get "blue-tagged" no longer avaiable. SAD STORIES. He told me dont bring anymore up there not doing it and its a statewide thing.
Im not knocking the process or Hook-ups ppls have where theres a will theres a way and if someone wants something bad enough they get it. But as far as i know CHP will deny you the ability to register the car legit. Plain and simple. i have registered a few of em and now its almost impossible legally doing it by ones self.
Motorex has it covered thats why they charge you 90 gs for a R34a skyline
The easiest state to register is GEORGIA, ALABAMA, FLORIDA (but getting harder)
ARIZONA is pretty simple too NO SMOG
SMOG is the huge issue in CALI if you get a EG6 you can simply install a 93-95 EX 1.6 US VTEC motor and smogs not a issue, However EFs with B16's no motor mount kit SR20's yeah right, then the SKYLINES ever seen a legit one just reged by MOTOREX dual cats and small *** exhaust
thats just my take all this info is available at your local DMV to try to do it legit and remember LEGIT. There are ways to do it "other ways"

probably wouldn't have a problem in my great state of missouri...take it to the highway patrol with a bill of sale and import paperwork and they would issue you a title, then it just has to pass inspection, i.e. lights, horns, has to have a catlytic converter (no actual emissions testing).
LHD vs RHD lights (they're angled towards the brush... so RHD would angle right into the eyes of oncoming traffic)
and JDM lights are plastic, not glass (as I presume usdm lights are... our edm ones are anyways)
I think you'll have more luck importing an EDM car... everything but the RHD I guess...

Very similar to what I was told at the tag/title office in FL. Bill of sale from owner to dealer (assuming you bought the car from an exporter) and a bill of sale from dealer to you. Have all that paperwork translated into english and then register the car. Sounds a little too eazy, but I'm not gonna argue
