Dyno tuned with pics! - Greddy 18G on 94 GSR
Thanks to the HT search engine
and some helpful heads from this site I finally got the car running correctly!
Steve Sakai was cool enough to drive up to Excessive Motorsport in Manassas today to tune my freshly boosted GSR. We got the car strapped down and he began to do his thing. Hondata that is.
Base pull on 6psi was only 202hp which was tuned up to 212 a few runs later. From there we decided to throw on a manual boost controller which I had laying around and pump it up a few more pounds. We decided to go up slowly. Next mark on the map was to be 8psi. At this amount of boost the car made 232hp and 163tq. Final planned destination was 10psi, however we never made it there. We adjusted the MBC for more and more boost, however it never gave more than 8psi...which was weird. We attempted for more than 8psi several times and after the 3rd or 4th attempt we gave up figuring it may have been a sign to quit now...while I still have the stock clutch.
Odd thing you may notice is that the turbo doesn't reach peak boost till nearly 6k rpm. We're thinking that the wastegate actuator may not closing the door completely, causing late spool up times. We didn't really have the time to investigate...
Thanks again to Steve Sakai, VERY cool guy!
On to the pics!

congrats on your setup...im not trying to be a dick but that power output looks similar to that of an all motor setup.

Glad you finally got everything worked out! Nice car! Who did your downpipe, and what exhaust did you go with?
P.S. Sell me your seats!

The downpipe is the stock Greddy straw. From there on back it's Kteller's stainless steel 3" piping with a flexpipe and an 18" resonator...SRT-4 style.

How long did it take for Kteller to do the work for you? SRT-4 style? You need dual tips for that!

nice clean car! manassa? i'm centreville!
got a pic of engine bay close up?
the boost does build a lil too slow. definitely check for exhaust leaks (gaskets) and wastegate leak. good luck!

heres my boys dyno. he made much more power than that out of his b16 with the same kit, psi, im, injectors and all. the only difference is the d.p.

those numbers seem like weaksauce to me, but, the car is clean.

I think the downpipe adds a good bit of power on the Greddy kit.
I added a manual boost controller and no matter what I set it to, it wouldn't boost higher than 8psi. Today, going by a Spearco mechanical gauge, I can't get more than 6 out of it for some reason.

HAHA
have you searched greddy posts, check my name in threads ive posted, evidently this is a common issue with the setup on that WG.
cant figure it out!
No offense but i find this relieving, ive given up on trying to make more power out of this kit, my max is now 270 out of 15 psi that just peaks then falls back to a fluttering 9psi
good luck but im switching to different mani and exernal gate.
good numbers though

Wow. My post is back, haha.
After I added the Profec B I can boost higher without any issues. My current problem is that somehow I think the wastegate actuator keeps coming out of adjustment. At first it wouldn't build boost until 5k+ RPMs. Adjusted the wastegate and it fixed it, 5psi by 4k rpm. Today I started noticing less torque down low so I did a test and the Profec B registered 2.8psi at 4k rpm. Guess I need to adjust it again....if not, hope its just a loose hose.
My biggest problem was burning off my dipstick gasket. It caught fire going ~130 down the front straight at Summit Point.

Luckily it put itself out but left some burn marks on the heatshield and block.
Got a new dipstick however I can't seem to bend the tube away from the turbo manifold.
...so I can see this happening again.
