Creaky Suspension on the DA
This one's got me a little confused, but I'm starting to think it's just because I have cheap components. I have kyb gr-2 shocks all around w/ I-tech (knockoff brand) coilovers.
Yesterday I noticed that when I pull out of the driveway or hit certain bumps at slow speeds, there is a creak coming from the passenger side rear tire area. I stopped at a friend's house, took off the tire, and began to inspect the setup. The shocks were tightly bolted in, the bolts on top were tight, and the coilovers seemed to be sitting ok. After putting the tire back on and driving around, noticed the same problem.
I couldn't inspect the suspension with the tire on (so it would still be compressed) because the drop is so low the tire is barely tucking in the wheel well. I wanted to know if anyone knew what could be causing a creak like this, and maybe if someone had previous experience with a similar issue. Also, the creak is very easy to hear inside of the car, so it may have something to do with the top mounts. TIA.

Exactly. That is more and likely your problem. Energy Suspension makes a whole kit to replace all of it and itll be well worth it. Prothane also makes a kit but I dont get along with prothane; they fucked me over with these damn inserts and there customer service is worse then mcdonalds

Cool, I'll keep an eye out for the part. Besides the horrible noise, is there any reason to rush getting the bushings? I don't want to damage anything but I also don't want to spend money on it too fast if it's not high priority. Thanks again.
the bushing master kit from ES is less than $130. its the labor to it installed that eats you up, unless you have some friends that are willing to help you DIY.
are you sure its suspension? Our cars are jus noisy, in particular the hatch can make some creaking noises. Now this is gonna sound strange, but take some electrical tape and wrap it around the latch on your hatch. It'll help to hold it in place a little better. Does wonders for my creaking hatch.
Chances are thats not the only noise from back there, but it may help at least a little. Also... I installed the ES kit as well as mugen trailing arm bushings....I didn't notice much of a change in suspension creaking. Probably a little less from the suspension, but a little more from the rest of the car (since the bushings are a firmer).

I'm gonna agree with this guy and say that it is the bushings. It makes sense that after 12 years of use that things are beginning to get a little noisy. Although I have to admit there is a good deal of road noise in the g2's. Either way, this creaking was bad enough to tell it was just from the suspension, and I could barely hear it over my music (4 polk db650's and 2 12's) so it really got my attention. I'll post some pics of the DIY if I ever get the chance, or if I can at least get a friend to hold the camera. Thanks for the answers everyone.

how low is your car? sometimes suspension travel on shorter coilovers causes the springs to momentarily slide down out of place, then they pop back in after the full weight of the car gets set on it again. there's nothing you can do about that.

The fronts as low as the coilovers would go and the rear is set a little more towards the middle. For some reason, this made it a much more even drop. Either way I don't thing that's the problem, but if it is, that sucks.

well i know thats what it was on my old DA...i had some shitty coilovers on there for a while before switching to real GC's and the problem almost went away completely, just had some little creaks left but the car was completely gutted so i didnt care, it was loud all over
Holy crap, was I wrong on this one. I noticed the noise was really bad when I was halfway out of the driveway, so I had someone lay under my car while I was sitting there listening to the noise. It turned out to be a rattle, but I would've never noticed if I hadn't slowed down. The exhaust pipe is banging against something, I'm guessing the hangers or something got messed up from the random bumps. That's what I get for having the car so low. Thanks for the info though!
