I bought my JDM ITR at the beginning of febuary and i'm just coming up on the 6k mark where i need to change the oil/filter etc but since my last service the car hasnt used a single drop of oil (45k miles on engine) I've owned 10 B-series vtec hondas, some high mileage some low and they ALL burned/used oil to some extent but not the ITR. I know i should count myself lucky but i actually thought they were designed to use some oil in order to lubricate the vtec valve train....must have got that wrong. I have a load of friends with b series engined hondas and all theirs burned/used oil, even one guy with an 01 VTi coupe with only 12k miles on the engine!!!!
I'm using fully synthetic Bardahls 5/40 syntronic oil and i expected it to use some

My 97 ITR doesn't use any oil.
Then again, it probably hasn't spent much time in VTEC either.
73K miles, right not I've got it on a 50/50 mix of Mobil 1 and Mobil extended mileage motor oils.

My motor uses a little oil from time to time depending on how well iv'e beaten on her...........but i have been very impressed with how little oil it uses.
My '97 doesn't really use much. It has 34K and uses 1/2 quart every 3,000 miles or so only because I started using Mobil 1. All my old cars did though (97 Prelude, '00 ITR, '95 Eclipse).

Mine didn't burn any oil over the 26k miles I had it. About 10k miles of that with Spec B's. Didn't track it, but drove the **** out of it. Fed a steady diet of Mobil 1, every 3000 miles on the dot.
The replacement car doesn't burn a drop of Mobil 1 either. 54k on the clock, 25k of that by me. 5W30, gets the **** driven out of it, snail to add more heat.

I own a JDM ITR motor and mine burns oil as well. My friend owns a S2000 and his engine burns/eats up oil too. So he asked Honda and he was confirmed with Honda that all the high performace Honda engine (Vtec) eats up oil when vtec kicks in.
I don't own a ITR, but I do have a ITR motor on my car, last month was exactly one year since I bought it new. Has roughly 14k on it, hasn't burn one bit. As far as oil goes, never like the syntec stuff, just used regalar mobil one from the Honda dealership.
Next week I was thinking about taking the oil pan and take off the bearing caps to see how its holding. Sorta curious to see how are the off-the sheld shortblocks are being build.

Hmph. My motor used absolutely no oil after an entire weekend at the track, in VTEC 99% of the time. I used Mobil1 too.

You will burn oil if you're in VTEC a lot, like being on the track. It's just the nature of the engine. Now, if you're burning an abnormally large amount of it, then that could be another issue.
I have 92000 miles, all the oil eat by the engine is in the Catch can, but if you don't have one, it's aspired by the IM. The only reason some ITR eat some oil depend the quality and the viscosity of oil. On a good engine the oil is not eat by pistons ring or anything else, it's just high temp and high pressure crankcase who make this.
mine burns about a quart every 2k miles or so... Actually just switched to valvoline synthetic from Mobil 1 for the first time - hopefully it wont use as much, but time will tell.
Mine burnt about a half quart of so between this last oil change. However the last 3,000 miles included a 1,400 mile round trip to indianapolis for the USGP which included lots of vtec action
Oh yeah, and my 97' has 67,500 miles or so..........quickly making its way to 100,000

Its a B series but not a c5, but my little 1.6 DOHC engine (2000) burns quite a bit of oil. I'm using Mobil 1 synthetic. I'd say a 1/2 quart to a full quart every oil change.
Since the day I dropped in my motor:
My B18C Type R motor oil history
1. On startup I used Mobil 1 10w30 non synthetic for 3K miles.
2. 1st oil change and I used Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic, oil burned a little but stopped. Ranned another 3K mi.
3. Switched over to Amsoil 5w30 synthetic and never looked back, have not burn any oil that I'ved noticed, if so maybe real little but un-noticeable.
Looking to test out the Amsoil 0w-30 synthetic racing oil. Anyone have any inputs on this or have used it on their R?

I wouldn't use a race oil in a street driven car....the only time I would use a race oil is if I was at the track...remember, race oils are designed for race engine which are torn down and rebuilt after so many passes....totally unsuitable for something you want to last 100k.
