Default SRS airbags deployed - how to repair?

Unfornatelly, I had an accident with my '95 4G, and both the airbags deployed :-(

Now I want to repair them - what exactly do I need to change?

Only the airbag sets, like here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...11175

Or even the "electronic module", like here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...26396

In other words, are just the airbags destroyed or even anything more?

Thank you for your help,
Petr

If i remmember correctly, putting those things back in is a very expensive thing to do. You might be better off just taking them off. Or have a specialist replace them. Its not a "driveway" kinda job.

Sorry man.

I don't remember what it was called, but there is a place that sells air bag covers. I put them in my 4g, they were like $75 or something. Search and ye shall find......I got the info here.

damn that sucks, how did the accidnet happen,

i thought one could just replace the air bags and reset the srs unit and make sure the front sensors were ok and the system would be ok

An "S" turn on the end of a fast straight road, in the right turn I hit a wall, which throwed the car to a second wall, so both sides are wrecked . THe engine seems OK, but both front wheels are moved to the back.

ouchhhhh. Im sorry to hear/see that man. Id go for a diff steering wheel and just get a block off plate for the passenger side, alot cheap, alot less of a headache. may as well invest in a seat a harness and you wont need airbags anyway

Ouch, Im glad your ok, but that sucks.

I think you can replace the actual air bags yourself and I see them on ebay all the time. the only thing that would be an issue is the sensors themselves.

Good luck

I found also steering wheel inserts without airbags.

I hope the car will be repairable, I love it!

Looking at your pictures if you do decide to repair it you will need...
*Full front suspension, steering kuckles and calipers & disks
*Full cradle and PAS rack (as iner arms will be bent and cradle itself is likely to have bent)
*2 Front wings/fenders
*Bonnet
*Bumper
*Lights
*Indicators
*Radiator (guessing the wet patch under te car is from cooling sys)
*A/C condensor (if bust)
*Whole front clip + Front rad support
*Pair of wheels
*Car frame Jigged back into shape

Sorry to say but I think youd be betteroff claiming and finding another one. That is unless you can find all that stuff cheap? but it looks pretty expensive.

Sorry to hear about your Lude petrv

Just to give you an idea of the work involved in doing the full front suspension and cradle heres a link for you to have a look at (lots of pics) Cradle replacement

I know how much you liked that car but youve gotta put it into perspective, A car is just a chunk of metal, they are expendable or can be repaired. On the other hand you are not. But you walked away from it, and thats all that matters, the car absorbed your mistake and your still here thanks to it; **** happens but you shouldnt let it bother you.
As the old saying goes 'Theres no use crying over spilt milk'. Just get on with things and take the next step of weighing up the pros & cons of repairing it. Cost over value etc.

When you look back upon the event; Im sure your very happy that you are able to come back on here and tell us all about your experience.

based on the looks of it, i would guess between 4 and 5 thousand in damage, obviously if you repaired it yourself, it would cost nowhere near that much, but i think most of us know how bodyshops are..

if the frame is tweaked, it't not worth repairing,
but fron the pictures, it looks like you could probably fix it.

if you do need suspension, now would be a good time to do a
5th gen 5 lug conversion

i feel your pain man, i just spent $2640 getting my car fixed from
a wreck where the other person had no insurance.

i did all the work myself except the welding and the painting.

best of luck to you, time to start junkyard hunting.

From the Helms, the 92-93 airbags are different from the 94-96 airbags. If I will repair it, I will probably use some kind of plugs instead of new airbags.

You will need better suspension for that (I saw it somewhere specially for such hybrid) to manage the weight of the engine.

And your weight balance will not be great

well if you can handle driving a civic. Thats what I got to drive for a little while after I sold my lude. Boy I hated that car, there just not build like the 4th gen lude. But they can be fairly quick with a h22 inside.

I know, that's what I like on the 4g lude - perfect and modern interior, very good quality. My wife has '94 civic and it's really not comparable. I'm just ventialting all the ideas that I had that night (I really could not sleep all that night).

You should call a bodyshop around your area and
ask them who they use for airbag covers. People have that done to
their cars all the time. I think they cost about 50-75 bucks
