Default question about vtec?

okay so i have a b16 in my car, only 225 kms on the motor after the rebuild and did some more mods, headwork and a few other things

im wondering why now my car kicks vtec at 5200 rpms instead of 4800 last year, i do have gsr cams now, but im still running the pr3 ecu, could this be why its kicking i at 5200? gsr cams from a 94 integra gsr

it also feels as if my car is slower then last year and that was on a bone stock b16,, its more built up now and has some headwork etc,,,, why is this

coiuld the motor not be fully broken in yet, with only 225 kms (obviously its not FULLY broken in) but i mean why is it slow, i lost to a stock b16 last night by like a couple cars

I do believe the stock pr3 cross over is 5200.

Did your ecu get chipped?
For 1st gen b16 vtec is at 4800.
With the new chip vtec point usually gets increased.
My vtec crossover was 5200 with a new chip.
It gives the motor a chance to build up more oil pressure before
vtec engages.

no mang, stock pr3, getting it chipped next week, but im still just wondering why it would chang all of a sudden

maybe my stock tach is out???

but wouldnt it be better for vtec to engage earlier and pull right up to 8000rpms? thats what i udnerstand and that is why the mugen chip is so good

but why is it slower then a stock b16, anyone have any ideas ?

get a new chipped ecu and see if the problem goes away.
I would not be running a stock ecu with your mods.

haha i kno man, next week, hopefully that helps somewhat

i got port n polish, 3 angle, valve guide seals replaced, and chopped 12 thousand degrees.
gsr cams
i/h/e
new bearings/rings
8 puck clutch
lightened flywheel

that should beat a stock b16...

My PR3 kicks VTEC in at 5300: http://b16a.honda-perf.org/care.html

I have heard good and bad about the mugen program so check it out thoroughly.

Did you tune the motor after the cam install? Adj. Cam gears? Timing?Fuel?

Check these dyno's out...click on the last one labeled 1992B16A, it has an 89b16 with gsr cams. Scroll down and check out where the motor stopped making power and notice the rev limiter...8200rpm:

yea im gonna get cam gears, fpr, and aem fuel rail next i think, then tires :0

you think its a good idea to get that stuff, will it be worth it?

i hope i can hose b16s with my new chips, getting a mugen, toda, and spoon onez
i should be able to walk on stocker b16s, but for some reason i cant

im putting money on because its only got 225 kms on teh motor, maybe it just needs to be broken in more...
i dunno

what you guys think?

From what I've been reading definitely cam gears and fpr...not sure about the fuel rail. Not sure as in I haven't read much about them.

What car do you have this motor in and what car beat you?

its in a 91 honda civic si hatchback with full interior, no subs or anything

the car that beat me is a bone stock b16 in a 91 civic si hatch same year , no subs or anything but NO EXHAUSt so he has mad back pressure

i have an ls transmission where as he has an actual b16 transmission

i know you guys are all going to say oh its because of your transmission but thats not the case, we have raced many times before, he is a buddy of mine, we had a fued last year when we were both STOCK,,, he hasn't done any mods this year but i have, and last year i could beat him by 1 car length and i had my ls transmission and he had his b16 transmission

so im not sure why im losing...
and i also lost to another b16 yesterday, but that one was in a 90 civic dx

I'm looking at a dyno of a b16a; stock cams vs. Crower 401's...hotter cams than yours. The 401's didn't start to "beat" the stock cams until mid range...80hp @ 4500rpm.

Car could need tuning. Why are you racing it with so little miles?

Good point, have to let the valves seat properly or you'll be losing power
