Yes i know i know u think its a dumb question. but i would still like to know what are retainers i've been hearing the word for a while now and i've been wondering what it meant or what it is.

 

They let the springs put pressure on the valves.

 

A little cap that sit on top of your valvespring and with the aid of two little valve keepers they retain the valve stem.
