Anyone running a carbon fiber hood without hoodpins?
I've been looking into the same thing. One site has CF hoods w/ factory latches, im curious if that will hold it on there well enough by itself?
I'm running a VIS carbon fiber hood without pins and it seems to be just fine .. It latches nice and tight.. I've taken it to some speeds that I should not be at
and it holds fine without vibration or any indication of trouble ..

I ran a two hoods without hood pins but I would not recommend it. Highly unsafe. Even the heavier VIS ones have a chance of opening. Happened to a friend of mine. over 1 year without a problem and all of a sudden it opened up on him on the freeway cruising at ~65 mph.
my friend..jdm ctr '00 (Arman) has been running a VIS CF hood for over a year now w/out hood pins..car is not driven on the streets daily..however is raced at the track very often...latches nice and tight
However w/ a CF hood..the possibly is always there

Why do you need hood pins on a VIS carbon hood? a friend of me has an itr with an vis CF hood and it's the same as the stock hood, also with that locking system what clicks in your original mount of the car.., just like the stock one.. ( sorry for the strange explanation, don't know how to say specific words in english.. )
even with an stock hood, you also don't use hoodpins? i don't get it, can someone explain this to me?

i think u would need hoodpins more on carbon fiber hoods because they're alot lighter so it would not take as much for them to pop up. My brother Leon, "JDMTegraKid" has a JDM Honda Integra and when he ran it hard, i mean vtec everywhere lol, he parked it and he noticed the stock hood had popped out of the stock locking system, just imagine if it was a carbon fiber hood which is alot lighter, it would have smashed his windshield.
So just to be safe i would have hoodpins with VIS carbon

Because with most C/F hood, the latch bracket on the hood is glued instead of welded like in a steel hood. And a C/F is lighter and more flexible, so the left and right front corners tend to vibrate at high speeds. I have seen that happening with my C/F hood while driving 250 km/h without hoodpins. It didn't look safe....
