lowering springs for s2000? which brand? just springs or dampers too?
Hi guys
I am wondering which springs to fit to my s2000 and how much i should drop it by bearing in mind i want to fit 17 inch wheels on in the future. Also are the stock shocks any good or should i replace them with aftermarket ones? if so anyone know any good quality stainless steel ones that wont corrode? thanks

I just replaced my springs with some RSR Ti2000 springs.
.8 drop in the front, 1.4 in the rear, spring rates a tad bit stiffer than stock.
Rides great and looks great, I'll throw up some pics if I can find them

I just dropped my MY01 using Espiler's springs. To me, it rides just as it did stock. Only it looks better. The drop is about an 1 1/4 all around.
I picked them up from Evolution Motorsports in Chantilly(sp?),VA for $180 a few weeks ago. They were hosting a group buy.

Evolution is still offering their group buy actually. I was going to go with them, but I got a killer deal on the RSR's.
I will do new shocks eventually as well.

If your going to upgrade springs, you have to do the dampers too. A lot of modded cars over here often 'bounce' down the road from over sprung, underdamped suspension.
will i dramaticly shorten the life of my stock dampers with aftermarket springs? I did this on my civic (40mm drop all round, SPAX springs with stock dampers and never had a problem). Just dont wanna be forking out for new shocks sooner than i have too...
thanks for the replies

do yourself a favor and get koni yellow shocks. aftermarket springs will definately wear out the stock shocks much sooner.
i highly recommend kg/mm springs.

how long has everyones stock shocks lasted with aftermarket springs? Anyone been forced to change their stock shocks due to changing springs after say a year or two before? any horror stories?
a whole setup is too expensive for me right now. Maybe if i go for a 25mm drop all round that wont be too bad eh? In the sense that it wont put as much strain on the standard shock as say a 50mm drop, have i got that right?

i had neuspeed springs (*stay away from these things) for about 2 years on stock shocks. never encountered the "bounce". car was lowered 2", and kept settling until it was almost 3" lower!
swapped them out for tanabe gf210's a few months ago and couldnt be happier. drop is slight (1"), but looks better than oem on my 17's. these springs are a quite a bit stiffer than the neuspeeds and only slightly stiffer than the oem's.
while swapping the springs, i noticed some oil on the shocks. i'll place an order for a set of koni yellow's soon. do yourself a favor and spend the extra $ on a set of yellow's and decent springs or gc's. you bought a nice car, now do it up right.

prokit/espiler down is ur best bet they only drop you one inch or so but they do minimal damage on your stock shocks. ill give you a year or two years before you have to consider shock upgrades like k-yellows that everyone is boasting about. Plus the ride on either the espiler or the prokits are superb for daily driving.

sure you might be able to squeeze out a year or two with the stock shocks with aftermarket springs BUT in the end, you'll end up taking apart the suspension 2 times when you could just get both installed at the same time...do it right the first time.
btw dut, you used to run buddy club coilovers right? what happened with that setup and why did you decide to go with your new setup?

- I never actually drove on the bootyclubs...
- remember, I had problems with the coils hitting the a-arm...
- I think its a problem with buddyclubs w/pillowball mounts ???
- I also asked if you wanted the koni yellows, did you get some already..?

On a track environment, the stock shocks on stock springs (in my example on an '01) will need more rebound adjustment on bumpy courses. Now if you lower it via lowering springs, even if it's a little, you'll lose more rebound as the shocks wear out. If you daily drive around the streets and don't reach the limits of the car and your driving at the track, you'll be find riding on the stock shocks with a moderate drop via springs.
