Default Decided to go N/A...what should be my first mod?

Hey guys,

I've finally decided to g N/A....honestly, I dont know too much about engine...so I don't know what my first mod should be. Any suggestions? Current performance mods that i have now is Injen CAI, Apex-i N1 universal muffler, and custom testpipe. Besidez header, what should i mod first?

What is the mileage on your clutch now? Ever think about getting hi performance clutch and flywheel set? Power transfer is very very important I think. Also I will think about getting some nice tires too...get as much power to the ground as u can as this moment first. Then think of getting more power.

For other cheap mods, I will say boring out your stock throttle body to 70mm like the SPOON ones really worth the money. U will have better throttle response and gain some power at mid rpm range.

Cams and Cam gears.
Depending on how naturally aspirated you want to go... you may want to hold off on cams. The reason is because if you use big cams like Jun 3's, Toda B/C's, etc these cams will peak at an RPM that is greater than your stock rev limiter engagment point. Consider getting a different ECU (if you have a 2000/2001 R, your ECU can't be rechipped) or rechipping your current one. You could also consider buying a fully configurable ECU like Apex-i Power FC or the new AEM EMU. These will both allow you to change your rev limiter engagment point as well as everything else (VTEC engagment point, fuel maps, etc, forget about the VAFC). However, if you do end up getting big cams, you'll need some titanium valve springs and retainers to allow your engine to rev that high. Just be sure to reinforce everything before you starting taxing the engine. I hate to see all the local cars buy 150 NOS bottles and a month later they are in the market for a new engine. Be carefull man

Choose something that you won't regret for sure. People still debate if CAI worths the hassle, exhaust is loud as hell and gives you minimum gain. Don't know if you are going to track (road course) your car because full coilover is well worth the money. If for drag, get a header first. You won't regret for sure. BTW, did your car have gone through weight reduction? That's a free mod...

ATS 4.929 Final drive with all the parts ~$720 if you can get a good deal.

Installation ~$150 if you drop the tranny yourself and can get a good deal.

Value of walking your bone stock itr all over modded cars? = PRICELESS

The real answer:

A driving school or a couple sessions at the local Auto-X! Hands down best N/A mod available and usually less than the others mentioned.

As for the others,,,

A GOOD header like Hytech, SMSP, Spoon, or even Mugen. My Spoon definately made a difference of course mated to a HF cat.

The ATS 4.93 Final Drive is truely an awesome Mod for N/A! It also happens to be my next Mod coupled with a Toda flywheel.

If rodney can beat the Snot out of everyone in my R now just wait till I race more and have the FD and flywheel, then I'll have a car to be reckoned with!!!

Keep in mind though that if you don't truely know how or to drive your car or it's limits then you can't extract all of it's worth regardless of any and all mods. Learn how to drive it! It is one of the most Potent racing platforms in import performance PERIOD!

Good luck,

A.
