I used to have a "Race Engineering" blockguard in my old setup and it did what it supposed to....Too BAD the cylinder walls couldn't HANDLE the 19psi I was pushin'.

Mostly the reason why people hate blockguards is because they dont install them properly. You cant just pull the head and tap one in. You have to take the head off, have the cylinders honed (once the BG is in place) and have a deckplate to simulate the head being on the block as well as the block needs to be up to operating tempature to insure proper fitment and to keep the cyl. walls from forming an egg shape. Larry @ ENDYNE told me this, hes been building motors a long time....

Block guards do two things:

Keep the cylinder round and keep the cylinder from moving.

Unfortunately these are only a few contributing factors that cause cylinder walls to crack.

A block guard does not stop a cylinder wall from cracking. We sleeve blocks all the time that have a block guard installed with a cracked cylinder.
